Growth Mindset

The theme this year at Sadie's school is Growth Mindset. I didn't quite understand it at first, but the more she comes home & talks about it or has homework about it, I get it. Last week they made a banner & when I went to school I saw it hanging up:

We talked about it for a while at home before she made it. She said that she was determined to work hard by having a good attitude & never giving up! I believe we have been telling her that about soccer for the past couple of years so I am glad to hear that she realizes she can apply it to school also :)

Then last night, we had curriculum night & there was a really cool art wall where everyone drew a self portrait:

That is just the kindergarten & 1st grade section & it took us a while, but we finally found Sadie's:

It was fun touring the school again with her in charge! This morning they had Good Morning Pink:

Bryan was actually out of town so Sophie & I were going to go by ourselves. But then we got an email from her teacher yesterday saying that Sadie was receiving a special award so Bryan re-worked his schedule & got home around 2:00 this morning so he could be there. They chose 1 child from each class to receive the Growth Mindset Character Award & it was a surprise:

Bryan videoed it & I'm so glad he did because she didn't have a clue what was going on. She was sitting on the front row & she heard them call her name but she didn't know what to do! She kind of looked around but I think she was afraid to stand up because she didn't want to get in trouble! Eventually her teacher told her to walk up front & the principal passed out her award:

These are the lucky kindergarteners who won this week:

By the way, the other girl who won from a different class is named Sadie also!

Bryan & I are so proud of Sadie & her eagerness to learn at school. She has always loved school because she is a social person & she loves being with her friends, but she truly has a passion for learning right now also. Way to go Sadie!
