As much as we love the sand & the water, it was also nice to tour the island. We stayed on the West side of the island, which is located on the Caribbean Sea, so the water was flat & calm. There were a lot of people skiing actually. The other side of the island was completely different - it is the Atlantic ocean & it is very rough with huge waves. This was our view coming over the mountain looking over the Atlantic:
We drove down to the water to a place called Bathsheba which is where all of the surfers go:
Next we visited one of the oldest churches on the island which had a lot of history. It was beautiful:
We also made a special stop just for Sadie:
This was their version of a zoo. There were a lot of animals, but they are all out in the open, not caged. It was kind of neat to see everything up close yet scary at the same time!
Sadie loved the bird exhibit. She loved watching them fly around & I think she liked all of the bright colors:
We tried to get her to touch a turtle, but she was too scared!
The neatest thing we saw was the monkeys. There are monkeys all over the island. There were a bunch at our resort & apparently they came out to play early every morning, but it was always before Sadie woke up. Bryan also saw a bunch while he was golfing. If you look close, you can see that one is eating a banana & the other is holding on to his baby:
After our adventure around the island, we spent the rest of our time back at the resort. We did try something new with Sadie & she loved it:
We went sailing (don't worry - she had her life jacket on) & she loved the wind in her face & the waves splashing on her. I didn't know how she would do but she wasn't scared at all!
Bryan & I even snuck off on an adventure one day without her:
We hired a babysitter that the resort recommended & Sadie loved her. We used her a couple of nights so we could go to dinner & then we had her over one afternoon during Sadie's nap so Bryan & I could spend the afternoon together. First we tried paddle boarding. It was pretty easy in my opinion, but I have good balance. But I have to admit, that I got kind of bored :) Next we went snorkeling with the turtles & it was amazing! There were 4 turtles & they just swam right up to you & we got to touch them. It was pretty awesome - probably one of the coolest things I have ever done snorkeling. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from that excursion :(
I have one last section to blog about but guess you will have to wait until tomorrow. It follows our culinary treats, which we definitely indulged in. Until then, here are a few more scenic pictures to enjoy:
