After a 2 year covid hiatus, our church finally brought back their derby car race! Sadie got to do it for 2 years so this was her return but Sophie never got to participate so this was her inaugural year! They worked on their cars all by themselves & Sophie came up with their theme - candy cars:
They had fun painting the cars & then they glued the candy on. That night, Sophie's grade went first - can you spot her car on the track?
And that's her best friend's car on the track next to hers with the unicorn horn:
She ended up getting 5th place out of 12 but I really don't think she even cared because she had so much fun running around & playing with all of her friends:
Later in the evening it was 4th grade's turn. Sadie chose a truck this year instead of a car & it actually did pretty good!
She won so many races I lost track, but she did make it all the way to the grand champion race against her friend, Ansley:
and barely lost! It was so close! This was the best she has ever done, especially against Ansley - she wins every year! Bryan has tried to bribe a few tricks out of Eric & it may have helped slightly, but not enough to secure the victory:
She had fun with her friends also, in fact it was a great night for all! We definitely made up for the past 2 years & the girls already have a strategy for next year!
