Last year we surprised the girls & took them to Hawaii for spring break & thank goodness we did because while we were there the world shut down. I still can't believe that was a year ago! This year we decided to make the trip back to Hawaii but this time we visited another island. Last year we stayed in Honolulu & Aulani in Oahu so this time we went to Maui:
The girls loved Hawaii & Bryan was able to find free tickets using points back in the fall. It was stressful getting there but totally worth it. We decided to stay in Wailea & our resort was beautiful:
Of course they surprised us with leis when we got there & then we found a few more surprises when we walked into our room:
Apparently Bryan said we were celebrating my birthday so they had a few treats for us. All individually wrapped, of course. Everything was individually wrapped all week long - even on the buffet!
The girls found stuffed animals for them & sponges cut out in their name. I had never seen that before!
Let's just say we might have thrown those in our suitcase & brought them home with us!
The resort was beautiful. We had a corner room with a perfect view of the ocean on one side & the garden on the other:
The main pool was in the middle of the resort with the beach right behind it. They had huge fountains everywhere with an open air lobby - perfect views of the pool & ocean at all times:
Of course the landscaping was gorgeous! Lush, tropical blooms every where you looked - inside & out:
We flew out on Thursday morning, so our first full day at the resort was on Friday. We woke up ready to hit the water & relax by the beach all day:
They had these private areas where you could get lawn chairs & umbrellas in your own garden, between the pool & the beach. It was perfect & we woke up every morning to try & reserve them. The girls loved running back & forth between both pools & the beach while Bryan & just relaxed:
I slept in on Friday since it was our first day but by Saturday, I had adjusted to the time difference & was at the gym by 6:00 am. I just don't sleep much & I really enjoy exercising on vacation after all the food we indulge in! And who wouldn't want to work out here - they had an outdoor gym:
Technically they had an indoor gym with weights but they had a big patio where all of their endurance equipment was. That turf part in front had free weights, jump ropes, balls, mats, etc. so you could stretch & work out there also. I mean literally, this was my view from the elliptical machine:
The girls slept until 8:00 or 9:00 every morning so when Bryan woke up, he started joining me at the gym. This was the very first time we have left the girls in our room by themselves & it was kind of fun! We enjoyed both working out in the morning & the girls felt like they had a little independence. Literally, they would only be up there for 30 - 45 minutes but usually they were asleep & when they woke up, Sadie would text us since she has her watch now & they would watch tv until we got there. Such a treat traveling with older children! By Saturday, we had settled into a routine. Exercise, breakfast & then we would drop the girls off at the kids club for an hour or so while Bryan & I went for a walk on the beach boardwalk:
This picture cracks me up because we literally look like we are going to rob a bank! Hawaii has strict covid rules, going back to the stressful time we had just trying to get there! They have signs everywhere reminding you that masks are required at all times, even when you are outside:
I mean we wear masks at home, but not outside. We would literally have to wear them at all times, unless you were in the water. Even if you were dripping with water & walking from the pool to the restroom or to grab a drink, mask on. Always! It wasn't too hot there so it wasn't that bad, except for when we were working out. They were seriously strict at the gym & would reprimand you every time you pulled it down:
Thank goodness they provided disposable masks so we would wear those during the days so we could throw them away every night & then we saved our nice ones for when we went to dinner.
Moving on, after our morning date, aka mini walk, we would pick up the girls from the kids club & then head back out to the water:
Most afternoons we would drop off the girls at the kids club again for another hour so we could get ready without them before heading out to dinner every night:
Every night in the lobby they would have live music, a hula dancer & a Hawaiian male would blow a conch shell at 6:20 every night right before sunset. The girls loved watching this if we made it down there in time:
We saw some beautiful sunsets & ate some delicious meals! Seriously, I take pictures of all of the restaurants we like so if we go there again or if we know anyone going, I can share details:
We mostly stayed in the Wailea area to eat every night, but the restaurants were so spread out we had to take the hotel shuttle most nights if we couldn't walk. And most nights, this little lady would fall asleep in the car, even though it was a 5 minute drive:
So that was pretty much our life for 11 days in paradise. Wake up, exercise, walk/hike, swim, relax & eat. Repeat. Ha! We actually did a few more things & I will write about those also for that pretty much summarizes our first couple of days of spring break.
