After 5 months of practice & training, Sadie finally got to play her first soccer game again! Her coach kept them on their toes training the entire time we have been stuck at home & even though we had a couple of club scrimmages, this was their first official time back on the field:
They played in a tournament:
on Saturday & Sunday. Technically there was a 2 spectator limit per player, but no one really counted so we were able to sneak our kids in. We set them up under a tree on the side so they could play:
Kids might not have spread out very well but the parents did a good job of spreading out along the sideline. And don't worry, we had masks:
We wore the masks most of the time when we were walking around. In the parking lot, to the restroom, the concession stand, etc. but honestly, once we got settled in at the game, we kind of pulled them down so we could breathe & yell at our children! I mean it was 100 out there so it was hot with it on! Thankfully a few of the parents brought tents for us also so that helped:
The girls played awesome! You can't even tell that they haven't played a game together in months - in fact, they looked better than they ever have! They went undefeated in 3 games & made it to the championship game Sunday night, which was the first time for them! Before the game, they actually walked the teams out & introduced them:
Can you see her there waving at me?! They were so excited because they have never gotten to do that before! I usually don't take pictures during the game but since she was playing forward on the left hand side right in front of me, I took a few while she was on our sideline:
They play 2 halves, 25 minutes each & with 5 minutes left to go, it was still 0-0. We honestly thought it was going to come down to penalty kicks at the end but unfortunately, they scored in the last few minutes & we lost 1-0. It was a heart breaker! But honestly, these girls were so excited because they have never made it that far before:
Check it out - they even got trophies for 2nd place!
It's a good thing we have learned to like soccer because Sadie loves it! Even in 100+ degree weather, 4 games in 1 weekend, she cannot get enough. And I am definitely the soccer mom, mask & all:
Bring on fall because we are ready!
