Sadie's class had a 2nd grade softball team in the spring but our schedule didn't allow room for her to play. Then covid happened & the spring season got cancelled but they were allowed to play a summer season. Thankfully we don't have much going on this summer & since it is an outdoor sport, we decided to let Sadie give it a try:
She was so excited to try something new! And she knew most of the girls on their team so that makes it even more fun. They practiced a few times earlier this summer but then she missed the first couple of games while we were in Galveston & then she was at camp. Finally she got to play last week! They had a few games last week & a couple of games this week. It may be hot out there, but she is loving it! Their coach has done a good job of having them rotate positions so she has played 2nd base, short stop, 3rd base & even catcher:
I think she was a littler nervous her first time at bat because she struck out but then she redeemed herself & hit a line drive past 3rd base & got a double:
She has gotten several more hits since then & appears to be a little more confident every time she steps up to bat. But I think her favorite part of the game might be running the bases - ha! No surprise there. The girl likes to run & she is fast:
As of now, she still loves the sport, which honestly surprised me. I personally think it is slow compared to swimming, basketball & soccer but I think part of the fun is that it is something new & she is playing with friends. So we'll see if this sport lasts long term but for now, especially during covid times, it is fun!
