Last week, our school only gave us instructional learning for Monday - Thursday & they gave us Friday off for Field Day! All of our awesome PE teachers from across the district put together a video with ideas of games we could do at home. Instead of doing them by ourselves, we thought it would be fun to do it with a few friends. This was a little tricky since we are supposed to be self isolating so we invited all of our neighbors & families with elementary kids on our street. They are already playing outside together & we try to keep space between them but let's be honest, after 2 months of self quarantining, it is hard!
The kids were so excited & they all decided to wear their field day shirts & all of the girls wore braids:
Every family chose 1 or 2 activities to set up at their house & then we literally went from house to house letting the kids play the games:
The girls had so much FUN! We have been pretty strict about them playing with all of our neighbors until last week, when we finally gave in a little. We have allowed them to be outside talking to them & riding bikes with them, but we hadn't really let them touch anyone or anything outside of our house so obviously that went out the door when they participated in field day:
We scheduled it later in the afternoon so even the dads came out after work. I think the parents had just as much fun planning it & watching as the kids did participating!
Our last station was a water balloon fight:
Then one of the moms surprised them with popsicles:
It may not have been the typical field day they are used to like the school usually has, but we made the most of it & had a great time! We are fortunate to live on a street with so many young families with kids our age.
