Easter 2020

This Easter was definitely different than years past, but it was one we will always remember! I thought I wouldn't have much to blog about while being isolated at home, but I probably took more pictures than normal because we did more than normal! I'll back track to last week. Our church asked us to make a video for Easter service so we actually showered & cleaned up one morning:

The girls had so much fun they actually asked me to take pictures of them:

We didn't have school on Friday so when the girls woke up, I had put all of our Easter activities on the table so they would be excited for the weekend:

Books, coloring sheets, games, recipes, resurrection eggs & so much more! We actually didn't do much on Friday because it was so nice outside we spent most of our time outside outside. We saved everything for Saturday because we knew it would be cold & rainy. But I had another surprise when they woke up that morning because they got an Easter package in the mail from Mimi & Doc:

Then we baked Easter pancakes:

Our first gluten & dairy free pancakes which tasted pretty good! Afterwards, we watched a video called Easter Jam that our church sent us. It was full of games that we had fun playing together:

We didn't have peeps but we had Easter marshmallows & the girls loved this! Next up:

We left to run a quick errand & you will never believe who we saw when we got home?!

One of Bryan's aunts arranged this surprise meet up & we had no idea! Had we known, we may have fixed ourselves up a little more:

The girls took him to the backyard & showed off a few of their moves on the trampoline & I quickly texted a few neighbors if anyone wanted to stop by. Don't worry, we even social distanced with our friends although I realized we didn't with the bunny!

Next up, we baked. I found a new dairy free, gluten free way of making bird's nests that the girls decorated with jelly beans:

Then we dyed eggs. I had bought a kit to decorate them with sugar crystals but that didn't quite work out for us so we stuck to dying them colors instead:

I forgot to take a picture & I really wish I had, but the girls thought we should leave a plate for the Easter Bunny when they went to bed. It was so cute! They had an nest with jelly beans, a few carrots & a glass of water. All their idea! This is what we found the next morning:

I guess the Easter Bunny was hungry! He also filled their Easter baskets & the girls woke up early with excitement:

I think the Easter Bunny did good, all things considered. A new puzzle to occupy their time, Frozen II since we have plenty of time for movies these days. But they also got several things for camp this summer & I'm still not confident camp is a go :(

The girls slept in sponge rollers the night before because they wanted to be fancy for Easter. It was also storming & cold outside so the girls put their winter robes on & Sophie even had her ear warmers on. In April?!

They also got iced sugar cookies that looked like Easter eggs, which I think were meant to be for dessert later that day but before I knew it, both of the girls were eating it:

Then it was time for their egg hunt! It's hard to get pictures of this anymore because they move so fast:

Finally it was time to get ready for Easter service & the girls wanted to get dressed up again. I never bought them Easter dresses so I let them pick whatever dress they wanted from their closet. Then we took out their curlers & put on fake nails. Because why not?!

I believe they have gotten new umbrellas every Easter because somehow they always break. But April showers bring May flowers, right?!

Bryan & I even dressed up as well. Bryan spent some time with the girls leading children's church & then we watched our Easter service together online. Our church even mailed us communion packets so we were all able to take communion together as a church family:

After church, I had our Easter meal ready to go. We tried to have a somewhat normal Easter lunch but I scaled it back since it was just the 4 of us. But we did have ham & my mom's 7 layer salad, which we have at most holidays:

I even surprised the girls & set the dining room table with our china:

Our only indulgence that I did not make was our pie. I am still easing into our new way of baking so I ordered a vegan chocolate chip & pecan pie:

We thought it was supposed to be bad weather all day, but somehow the storms moved out early in the morning & it ended up being a beautiful day so we spent the afternoon on a family bike ride. It was perfect! We ended the day with a few family zoom calls:

We may not have gotten to physically see anyone in our family, but we sure enjoyed visiting with them!

So that's our Easter weekend in isolation! Like I said, I took a lot of pictures because we did more than we normally do since we didn't have any of our other distractions. It may not have been what we originally planned or expected, but we are thankful we got to celebrate together our risen Lord!
