As I mentioned, Sadie started volleyball last week. They had 2 practices & then they had their first game over the weekend:
She has been asking to play volleyball for the past year or so. They can start playing in 1st grade but most of our friends told us they are too young to really play at that age. In fact, they are probably a little still too young in 2nd grade, but we finally gave in. Most of her basketball team decided to take a break from fall basketball so they could try volleyball together:
So it was a win-win. She finally gets to play, she is with all of her same friends from basketball/school & one of our friends decided to coach. To be honest, I really thought she would get bored with volleyball because the reason she loves basketball & soccer is because they are fast moving sports. As this age, volleyball is not. Ha! In fact, there isn't any volleying at all - it's mostly both teams taking turns serving back & forth:
I would say it was half & half - half of the girls could serve it over the net & about half couldn't. Thankfully they lower the net & make the court smaller so that helps, but in Sadie's case, she had no problem serving. She was too powerful & they had to have her keep scooting backwards! We joked she is probably ready to learn how to serve over handed already :)
The girls were so cute standing in ready position waiting for the ball, but they never quite knew what to do if the ball made it over:
They play 2 games & it's the first to score 25 points and then they could go to 3 games if there is a tie. Let's just say it was a long hour of watching them serve back & forth but they loved it & had fun celebrating afterwards:
We'll see how the season goes. I secretly hopes she gets bored so we can return to basketball but I'm glad she's having fun with her friends for now:
