New Year's Day 2018

The girls have been asking to go ice skating all of winter break so we finally took them on New Year's Day. They only had 2 days left before they had to go back to school so I wanted to enjoy them together. We went ice skating last year over Christmas, but Sophie didn't really do it & Sadie didn't really remember so it was kind of like their first time again:

We started in the practice area & they both skated while pushing around buckets:

Sadie loved it & was ready to ditch the buckets & head out to the big area while Sophie didn't like it all. No surprise there! Bryan & I took turns skating laps with Sadie while Sophie sat on the side. Eventually, Sophie got brave enough to venture out but it was more like Bryan dragging her around:

But she found something else more exciting. She realized that when she sat on the side, if she dug her skate in the ice, she could make snow & then she could eat it:

Just like ski lessons. Go figure!

But we got her out there a few times & she would do a lap in between Bryan & I holding our hands. Since it was New Year's, it was the last holiday skate of the year. They had the arena decorated with Christmas trees & inflatables:

So it was the perfect way to end one of our last days of the winter break & our first day of the new year together:

Afterwards we went & celebrated the way the Dodson family does best - with ice cream:

It was still really cold outside, in fact it was 15 when I woke up yesterday morning & never got out of the 20's, so we ate our ice cream in the car which was nice & toasty.

Cheers to 2018!
