Winter Break 2017

After a 2 1/2 week break, we are officially back to normal. We had a really nice holiday with much needed time at home. We were out of town the first week, but were home the second half from Christmas until New Years. We spent a lot of time with family & thanks to the frigid temperatures that hit, we spent a lot of time hibernating at home:

We had the fire place burning non stop, we watched a couple of movies, played a lot of games & ate a lot of great food! The girls had slumber parties every single night & slept in late every morning. It was heavenly :) Even Bryan disconnected & stayed off his computer most of the time, which is unusual for him!

But we did accomplish a few things also. We cleaned out the girls room & re-organized their toys. Especially Sadie. Her room had gotten out of control so we bought a new shelf with baskets to help control the toys & had a place for all her new books since she is learning to read:

She loves it & asked if she could decorate the top of it with all of her trophies. She is so proud of them! In order to add this to her room though, we had to get rid of her rocking chair. We had a big, comfy, lime green rocking chair that we have had since before she was born. Bryan would still sit there & read to them every night so we were sad to get rid of it, but Sadie was ready for it to be gone. By the way, guess who put this shelf together:

Bryan usually hates this kind of stuff but he indulged because he was home & he knew we were excited about it. We didn't do much in Sophie's room since I had already cleaned it when we added her new bed earlier this month, but we did hang her jewelry shelf & she loves it:

She is our girlie girl & loves fixing herself up so this works perfectly!

The best part about hibernating during Christmas is getting to enjoy all of the twinkly lights & Christmas decorations. It was pretty sad when I took it all down but I wanted it down before New Year's Day because I wanted us to start fresh when we had to return to school & work. Thankfully I had time to clean out the house, take everything down, pack away all of our new goodies & now our house seems empty. But I got my holiday closet back all organized & ready for next year:

Sophie also had her well check over the holiday:

They took her vitals, did an eye exam, attempted a hearing exam & then she got 2 shots:

I don't know what it is, but she is deathly afraid of anyone touching her ears. I almost want to let her earring holes grow in because it's not worth the battle anytime I have to change them. And heaven forbid we try to clean her ears after she takes a bath. So let's just say the hearing test didn't happen. She did great during the vision test:

Her pediatrician recommended she see an eye doctor since Sadie wears glasses & she had some concern about her learning abilities at this point, but I think I may wait & see how school goes this semester before we do anything.

One of Sadie's favorite things about winter break was going to her first sleepover at someone's house:

Julianne asked about a month ago if we were ready to try it over the holiday break & since she is in kindergarten, we agreed. I figured Alana's house is a great place to start because we are really good friends with their family, I know the parents well, she has been over there dozens of times & we've been on vacation with them. And Sadie is so independent I knew she would be fine. It was harder for me justifying that she is old enough to do this! But she loved every minute & I never heard from her until I picked her up the next morning. Apparently they made home made pizza:

Went swimming in the bath tub:

Stayed up late & slept in their sleeping bags. I have a feeling we will have to have a sleepover at our house next!

While she was there, Bryan & I let Sophie stay up a little later & watch the Longhorn football game with us but she couldn't hang:

She got invited over for a sleepover also with another friend but we declined that offer. I don't think she is quite old enough yet! Instead, we opted for a play date. I dropped her off at Abby's house one afternoon & then they went to Brinkley's another afternoon:

I think having a drop off play date for a few hours is a good place to start with her :)

And that was winter break! We did go to the movies a few times & run errands around town, but besides that, we were pretty lazy. I was kind of worried how life would be when we returned back to school on Wednesday, but the girls had no problem. Now this weekend we are full steam ahead - basketball practice, basketball game, birthday party & girls scouts. Now if we can just thaw out from this cold front it would be easier to get out!
