When we first got to Ochos Rios, I was really disappointed in the beach. Not only was it small, but it was covered in seaweed. The water looked pretty, but you could see clumps of seaweed floating around & it was washed up all over the sand. The workers were cleaning the sand but you could still see it in the water, so we didn't even go to the beach for the first couple of days.
But then, it miraculously disappeared! I know the crew cleaned the beach, but it's like the tides turned because the water was completely clear with seaweed no where in sight! Sadie didn't want to go to the beach at first because she said it looked dirty :) But after it cleared up, we headed down there:
If you can see in the background that orange float, they had about 6 of those. Sadie could walk all the way out there & those floats could hold several people so she had fun swimming out there & playing:
Sophie treated the beach like she did everything else - no! She did ok playing in the sand, but she didn't want to have anything to do with the water. Actually, she kept walking up to the beach bar & trying to get another smoothie. That little stinker!
They had a whole lot of water activities that anyone could do for free, but the girls were too young. The first couple of days (when the seaweed was bad) they actually had no activities going because it was too windy. But by the middle of the week, people were kayaking, boating, sailing, paddleboarding, etc. I really wish Sadie could have gone on the banana boat, but she wasn't old enough. She was probably a better swimmer than some of the kids on there! We did get to go out on a glass bottom boat one afternoon & they really liked that:
Here is a view of the resort from our boat:
You can see how mountainous the island is & how small the beach is.
On our last day there, Bryan went golfing so I took the girls back to the beach because it is easier for me to watch them both there then at the pool. But I surprised them before we went:
Almost every girl there had their hair braided so I thought it would be fun for them to get their hair done. Sadie was beyond thrilled & she still has her braids in at home today:
Her hair is kind of short so they only did 6 braids on top in the front & then it is curly in the back. Sophie on the other hand wanted no part of it, again. Go figure. Do you want your hair braided? No! I held her in my lap & thought she might get excited but after 1 braid we decided it wasn't worth it. So she had one little braid on the side & she is still wearing it proudly today:
Oh yeah, did I mention their braids had beads? Sadie chose pink & purple :)
After they got their hair braided, we spent our last morning on the beach where Sadie wanted to pose with her new hairstyle:
Friends, this was all her! She asked for the picture & she struck the pose. Oh-my! You can tell the beach & the water was really pretty once the seaweed washed away!
