Big Girl Sophie

Today is officially Sophie's birthday but I feel like we have been celebrating all week. There are 5 kids in her class that have December birthdays, so they celebrated all of them on Tuesday. I didn't see any pictures, but we sent cake balls for her to share with her friends & she came home with a birthday hat & balloon.

I've been telling Sadie that Sophie is a big girl now that she is 2. I finally took down the changing station & rearranged her dresser. I don't know we kept her up there so long because she was really too big & didn't like being up there anymore. We also had a break through with her pacifier. At 1, we started leaving it in the crib so she only got it when she slept. Her pediatrician told us that they don't need it past 2, so I remember taking it away from Sadie after Sophie was born. I was dreading doing it again so I was going to wait until after the holidays, but she's been throwing it out of her crib a lot & not using it. Then the other day I noticed she had chewed it all up, so I threw it away & hid the others. I thought I would experiment with her nap & when she did ok, we tried it at night & we had no problems! It's like she got rid of the pacifier on her own!

Another step for a big girl was her first trip to the dentist. We took her yesterday & she rocked it:

I don't know how I became so lucky but both of my girls love the dentist! Sadie has always enjoyed brushing her teeth so we have never had a problem with her & I think Sophie just copied her. In fact, Sophie LOVES toothbrushes. So much so, that we have to keep bathroom doors closed because she will steal a toothbrush every time:

The hygienist cleaned her teeth, attempted to floss & even used a fluoride treatment. None of it bothered her! I tried to back up & take a full picture of what was going on because Sadie was her little cheerleader & thought it was so exciting that Sophie was at the dentist:

She even did good when the dentist came in to re-evaluate:

Apparently she has all of her teeth, including her 2nd set of molars. Somehow both of the girls walked out with goodie bags with new toothbrushes & toothpaste :)

Unfortunately, Bryan has been traveling all week so he wasn't here for her birthday. We are going to wait & celebrate when he gets home, but I tried to decorate & put out her gifts this morning but Sadie was pretty disappointed that I didn't plan Sophie a special breakfast. Luckily, Sophie is too little to understand, but I didn't think about Sadie! I couldn't go buy donuts & run to the store since I was by myself:

Another big girl move? Those thermos cups shown above. They are my favorite cups but I didn't like to use them until Sadie was a little older because they are big & heavy. But I am tired of fighting Sophie because it is obvious she wants Sadie's cups & not her little ones anymore, so I bought a few new ones & both girls have their own now. Sophie was pretty excited to take it to school this morning!

Unfortunately, she didn't stay at school all day. I got a call a few hours later that she was sick. She was fine when she went to bed last night, but she cried & whined in her sleep all night & then she woke up with a runny nose. Apparently, she never ran fever, but her cheeks were red, her nose got worse, she developed a cough & just acted like she didn't feel good. Poor birthday girl:

We actually have a babysitter tonight because Bryan & I have a Christmas party, so hopefully she will catch up on some sleep & we can celebrate this weekend.
