Bryan had to go to NY for business this week, so the girls & I decided to tag along. His meetings were on Monday & Tuesday, but we caught a flight on Saturday so we could enjoy the city with him before he went in for work. Sadie had a basketball game at 8:00 Saturday morning & then we headed to the airport around lunch time. We used to crash Bryan's business trips all the time when it was just Sadie, but since she doesn't fly free anymore, it's too expensive :) But since Sophie is still free until she is 2, I was determined to at least take her somewhere & why not NY? We took Sadie there when she was 1 so it was fun to take Sophie at the same age.
The girls did good on the airplane. Sadie was a pro. She got new headphones for Christmas so she literally sat there & watched 2 movies. It was by far the easiest flight I have ever had with her! Sophie was a bit more challenging, but not horrible. We flew in the afternoon which is during nap time, but I am telling you, she will not sleep in public. She never really made any sounds & we didn't have to get up & walk with her, but she was definitely busy going back & forth between our laps. Finally we landed & headed into the city:
We got there just in time to check in to our hotel & go to dinner. We ate dinner at a trendy Mexican restaurant that was only 2 blocks away from the hotel. It's one of those that I have heard of because all of the celebrities go there :) Bryan didn't care, but the food was good. And a dj started playing at 7:00 so it became a nice, noisy restaurant which was perfect for kids!
We stayed at a historic hotel which was very traditional. Not typically our style, but it was definitely worth the experience. The customer service was impeccable. They hooked us up with a mini suite that had a separate bedroom so we could put the crib in there for Sophie. It was awesome! She easily slept her usual 12-13 hours every night since she wasn't distracted. It was by far the biggest room I have ever stayed in NY before. They also gave the girls free stuffed animals:
They were teddy bears with chef outfits on. I'm not really a stuff animal kind of girl, but they kept the girls entertained & it's a free souvenir :) Sadie got to have her own bed in the same room as ours, so she didn't really nap or go to bed early since she was in the same room with the tv. I guess that's one of the perks of getting older.
We met our friends for brunch the next day & it cracked me up everywhere we went, so I had to take a picture:
Since everyone walks in the city, every place we went had stroller parking outside. And they have coat check since it is so cold outside & everyone is bundled up from walking. Kristin & Bryan used to work together at Yahoo! & she still lives in NY with her family. She has 2 girls close in age to our girls, so we get a long perfectly every time we get together. We spent the day walking the streets, literally - we probably walked a couple of miles & the big girls walked every single step while the little ones were pushed around:
Can you tell Sadie & Tatum became best friends! They were so cute together! They have a membership to the American Museum of Natural History:
so they got us in for free. This is the museum where the movies are taped, so that was kind of fun. Bryan & I have done a lot in NY but we hadn't been here. The girls loved running around & seeing everything:
We saw a lot of animals & dinosaurs skeletons. You can't tell in the top picture, but they are laying down because they are looking at the whale that was hanging from the ceiling. It was huge! Even the little girls had fun seeing everything:
We also went to the:
which was inside the museum. You can't really tell in the pictures, but the butterflies were flying around everywhere. Poor Sophie did not like the butterflies - I think they scared her!
When we left the museum, we decided to walk through Central Park since it was across the street. Sadie loved the park! She thought it was so cool that she could run around & climb on the rocks:
The kids were doing so good & were not tired at all, so we decided to keep on going. We figured we were only in NY for a quick trip, so we could skip naptime for once. Of course my girls never sleep in public, so they both stayed awake the entire day. Even Sophie in her stroller - there was just too much to see!
Tatum decided she wanted to take Sadie to her favorite park, which is right outside the MET. You know Sadie - she was happy as she could be as soon as she saw the swings:
We even let Campbell & Sophie out so they could play:
Since we had been walking a while, we decided to go back to their apartment to rest for an hour before Randy came home from work. He is a pilot with Jet Blue & had been flying all day, but he wanted to meet us for dinner. The girls had a blast at their apartment because they played with all of their toys. Once Randy got home, we walked to dinner:
We went to this great little family style Italian restaurant called Nick's:
The pizza & pasta were great, but we enjoyed the company even more. It is so fun to have friends that we get to visit when we travel. And it's even more fun now that are kids are friends. As you can see, we had a busy trip & that was only our first day there. Bryan had to work the next day so I got to spend the day in the city with my two girls! You know I took way too many pictures, so I'll blog about our girls day tomorrow.
Thanks Kristin & Randy for spending the day with us & helping us feel like locals :)
