When we took Sadie to NY for Christmas when she turned 1, we bought her first baby doll at American Girl. It was our first experience there & I loved it! We have a store in Dallas but I have been waiting for the girls to get older before I take them there but I knew as soon as Bryan mentioned this trip, I wanted to take them there again! Sophie also got her first baby doll from American Girl too & even though she is little, I knew she would still enjoy being with us. So, I made reservations for lunch & planned our day shopping on 5th Avenue.
The store was only 3 blocks from our hotel so it was a quick walk. Sadie was so excited when she saw the store front:
We headed straight upstairs to the American Girl Café for our lunch reservation:
Sadie was beyond excited when we got there! I told her we were taking her baby somewhere special so she carried it with her on the plane & in her stroller every where until we got there. She was even more surprised when they set up a high chair for her:
It was a cute restaurant decorated with black, white & hot pink. The view was amazing since we were in the heart of Manhattan. The napkins were put together with pink hair ties that we got to keep. They even gave us another high chair for Sophie's baby, but we didn't bring her. I didn't want to mess with dragging her along since she couldn't really take care of her:
I didn't really know much about the café so I was pleasantly surprised to see that is was a fixed 4 course menu & all of their reservations are based on group seatings. So glad I made reservations - apparently this place is the place to be! First course was mini cinnamon rolls:
They actually brought 3 of everything so we could share with Sophie, but they didn't charge anything for her. First, we chose our beverage. Sadie was so excited to get apple juice & they gave me a free glass of milk for Sophie. When they delivered our drinks, they also delivered a tea cup & saucer for the baby so Sadie could feed her milk:
Second course was an appetizer tray:
Again, they gave us extra for Sophie & she enjoyed every bite :)
And Sadie shared her pretzel with her baby:
We got to choose our 3rd course, which was the entrée. I chose a turkey cranberry sandwich & Sadie chose the mini bites - which was a mini hot dog, mini hamburger & a mini bowl of macaroni & cheese. You can tell she was just a little bit excited:
Finally, they served the final course, which was dessert:
Most people got a white cupcake with chocolate mousse & it was delicious! Some girls got their own special cake if it was their birthday. They even gave us a separate dessert plate for Sophie! I did give her a few bites, but mostly Sadie & I split it :)
We had so much fun on our special lunch date & I will always remember taking them in NY when they were younger. I am sure we will go to the store & café in Dallas eventually (maybe even have a birthday party there!) but that's why I wanted to document every moment of this trip because I want to look back & share it with them when they are older:
When we finished eating, we went back downstairs to shop. I promised Sadie she could pick out something for both of their dolls & she picked out bathing suits:
I guess I shouldn't be surprised since she wears her bathing suit around the house most of the time :)
When we left American Girl, we headed to:
We took Sadie shopping here last time & I knew she would have fun running around the store & playing with all of the toys. I have pictures of Sadie playing on the big piano last time with Bryan, but this time she wanted to do it by herself. She was a little shy at first, but then she realized that if she jumped around, it would make noise:
Next, we headed to Times Square & I thought I would surprise her with the M&M store but she saw it before we even got there:
It was 3 stories tall & she thought it was awesome seeing m&m's everywhere - after all, she does love to eat them:
I was pretty good & we shopped all day without buying anything (except for American Girl) but I gave in & let her get some m&m's:
She was so excited to choose her own colors! She chose purple, then pink, then turquoise & finally lime green. It kind of looked like an Easter mix:
She got a little trigger happy & poured more candy than I had planned on, so unfortunately I have $20 worth of m&m's sitting on our counter at home.
We walked through Times Square & ended our day at:
We have a Disney store in Frisco & most of the inventory is the same, so we didn't really buy anything, although she probably would have taken everything in there. But they had a parade, a dance party, coloring & all sorts of fun activities going on so we spent a lot of time there just hanging out & playing:
On our way home, we walked through Rockefeller Plaza & watched the ice skaters:
Bryan actually offered to stay with the girls in the morning so I could go to the Today Show, but I decided to sleep in since I did that last time. It was too cold to get up that early :)
Later that night, we met Bryan for dinner. His friend/co-worker Garreth joined us. I was hoping his wife & son would come too, but they weren't able to make it. I have met Garreth several times & we hung out with his wife last time they came to Austin to visit:
It was a long day, but I had a blast. I have to brag & say that I was quite proud of myself for spending the entire day in the city by myself with both girls! My only rule was they Sadie had to stay in the stroller & she could only get out & walk around when we went in to a store. I think my girls like to people watch as much as me, so they were happy just walking around. I on the other hand was exhausted when we got home. I probably walked 4 or 5 miles that day while pushing 50+ pounds in that dang stroller! I have to admit though, now that we are back at home, I am enjoying my car again & not having to use a stroller on a daily basis, but it is a fun experience to share with the girls while they are still young. I hope we have several more trips to the Big Apple as they grow older!
