Playa Mujeres

Bryan & I love traveling & I realized on this trip that one reason I love traveling with him is because it is so easy. We have been traveling together for 12 years now & we make great traveling partners :) The last 5 years our traveling has changed. We prefer to travel off season, when it isn't busy, to non touristy places. And we love quiet places. We have been to Mexico 4 times - 2 to Cancun, 1 to Playa Del Carmen & 1 to Cozumel. All 4 of those times were busy places. This time we went somewhere new - Playa Mujeres. It is more of a golf & spa area with a few quiet resorts. Now when I say quiet, I don't mean literally quiet, but they are more adult & family driven, not a party scene. So even though we were there over spring break, it didn't effect us.

Our resort was brand new & had only been open a few weeks so the décor was awesome. Very contemporary. Bryan splurged & we had a large room with 2 balconies. The first floor had our room & bathroom with a small balcony:

We went out here the most since it was adjacent to our living area. The bath tub/Jacuzzi was awesome! As you can see in the picture, you entered it from the inside of the room, but it was enclosed with windows overlooking the resort & the beach. I had never seen this before - pretty cool!

Our second floor was a huge balcony the size of our room below:

It even had a private pool:

To be honest though, we didn't use it much. It's so quiet up there - a little too quiet. I like to be down by the main pool so you can hear the music, people watch, visit with others & order drinks :) We did go up there one afternoon, but it was shaded & the water was cold, so we just sat on the side & read our books. The view was beautiful from both balconies:

The resort was open to any age so there were families there with small kids, but the building we stayed in was adult only. We had a private restaurant, pool & concierge service that was separate from the rest of the resort. It was also all inclusive. We hadn't stayed at one in a while, so we were a little worried about the food but it was decent. It wasn't the best food I have ever had, but it was definitely better than the other all inclusive resorts we have stayed at before. They had a place that was my favorite:

I might have popped in there a couple of times a day to pick up a cookie, cupcake or ice cream cone:

Can you see that machine? It is a refrigerated ice cream machine that held about 20 different flavors. It had a button that you push that would rotate the ice cream around so you could get whatever you wanted. It was amazing & I wish I could have one at my house :)

The beach was disappointing:

I'm kind of a beach snob, so I am really picky because we have been to some good ones, but I mean the sea weed was ridiculous. I wouldn't even get in the water because it was every where. Apparently, there is a reef between Isla Mujeres & Playa Mujeres & whenever the wind blows a certain direction, the sea weed from the reef always blows towards Playa Mujeres. I guess certain times of year are worse than others, but honestly, I wouldn't go back to this area of Mexico just for this reason. The other places we have been were much prettier.

But the resort was beautiful, we ate way too much food & the customer service was better than we expected for it still being a soft opening of a new resort. Tomorrow I'll post more pictures about what we did, which was basically the same thing every day - eat, read, sleep. Bliss.
