Bryan planned a little get away about a month ago for the two of us, not even realizing it was spring break. We try to do one trip a year with the kids & one without, but we haven't really left Sophie for an extended period of time yet since she was having her digestive problems. Don't get me wrong, we do lots of dates nights & an occasional over night here & there, but we were ready for more than that :)
Little did we know that weather was going to dampen our plans. I mean seriously, we had a mild winter & as soon as March comes, the weather got crazy. We knew we were supposed to have an ice storm, but we had no idea a Texas blizzard would be blowing through. My poor parents had to drive up late Wednesday night when they got off work & it took them much longer to get here than normal:
They were driving North so directly into the storm. Seriously, I have seen it snow before, but the wind was blowing it in pretty strong late that night. I think we got close to 6 or 7 inches. You couldn't even see where the sidewalks/trees/roads were because it was so deep:
And before the snow, it rained all day while the cold front blew in so there was a thick layer of ice underneath. My parents couldn't even make it up the driveway in their car. We were supposed to fly out at 7:00 the next morning, but I had a feeling when we went to bed around midnight, that wasn't happening. Luckily, Bryan set his alarm for 3:00 in the morning to check our flight status & of course all flights had been cancelled. But American re-booked us automatically on the 11:00 flight. The good news is that when we woke up the next morning, it was beautiful outside:
Luckily we got to sleep in since our flight was delayed, but we still left early to make the trek to the airport. When we got there all of the flights were grounded still, but they finally started going around the time we were scheduled, although we did sit on the tarmac for a while we they de-iced the plane:
We had hoped to be there by lunchtime, instead we were leaving at lunchtime. Oh-well, we were just grateful to be on the plane:
Wonder where we went? I'll give you a couple of hints:
We got the heck out of the snow & dipped our toes in the sand. And we left the girls with their grandparents. It was 5 glorious days of relaxing with my sweet husband. Check back tomorrow for more pictures of our Mexican escape!
