A Typical Day on Vacation

Bryan & I are very habitual, so I'll give you an idea of what our trip looked like based on a typical day at the beach. When we don't have the girls with us, we sleep in :) Granted, it may not be that late, but we still get to lay around without any distractions until we are ready to get up. Next, we hit the gym or go for a run. This might be one of my favorite things because we never get to do this together at home. Then we head to brunch:

Which happens to be my favorite meal of the day. We always make it a 3 course meal - we start with a healthy bowl of cereal, then we go for protein (I usually like an omelet) & then we go for something sweet - pancake, waffle, french toast, etc. It's kind of like dessert! There were so many restaurants at this resort, we ate somewhere new every time. This morning, we ate outside & had beautiful view of the beach before it got too busy. I should also clarify, we usually don't eat this much, but again, when it's free, why not?! Bryan even ordered 2 entrees for breakfast:

Another thing I should note, my husband discovered watermelon juice & he loved it! He drank multiple glasses every morning :)

Next, we hit the beach. Well, normally we do. This time we only did the first day. Usually it's quiet & not too hot in the morning so we enjoy the view. Since the view wasn't the greatest this time, we didn't go back. But the resort was set up multi level, so actually when you were at the pool, you can see the water, which was beautiful, but the sea weed was hidden. What do we do at the beach? Sleep. Read. Drink.

They even gave free massages at the beach for those who were staying at the exclusive, adult only club:

Typically we bring snacks & order food pool side, like an appetizer or burger & we split it. But since it was free (again!) we indulged in a sit down meal for lunch every day. Even though we weren't hungry. There were 3 restaurants & several bars by the pool, so we usually stayed out there. At least a few of the restaurants had live music while we ate, which I always enjoyed:

Another weird thing I just had to share - I ordered a cheese burger & this is how they served it:

They didn't have sliced cheese - they use the cheese sauce from the nachos! I thought it was ok, but I would prefer it the old fashioned way. Bryan thought it was awesome! Typical guy :)

We finally made it back to the pool where we would grab an umbrella. I am a lot more concerned at my skin the older I get, so I usually sit underneath it for a while to give my skin a break from the sun. I know. Boring. I'm not nearly as tan as I used to get back in my college/single days! We would get in the water when we got hot, but honestly, the weather was so pleasant, that we didn't get in as much as we usually do. The adult pool was heated, so it was really warm. Mostly we just read & relaxed:

Or sneak into the pool to grab another drink:

As I mentioned earlier, I really like people watching & listening to the music by the pool. And every now & then we would meet a couple & visit for a while. They also had these awesome floats in the pool that were fun to lay on:

See those cool rooms in the background? Those rooms had swim up pools & each one had a hammock. This would have been perfect if we had the girls with us! But I preferred our room with the rooftop view for the privacy since it was just the two of us. That's the other great thing about not having kids - we didn't have to go up for nap time or get ready for an early dinner! We stayed outside until 5:00 or 6:00 each night. After we got ready, we tried a new restaurant every night:

Most people we talked to raved about the French restaurant, but I personally liked the steakhouse. Maybe because I'm a Texan?! My other favorite was the Tepanyaki. They had a side room at the Japanese restaurant that had a hibachi grill & it was a lot of fun! We met a really nice couple who were there on their babymoon & our chef was pretty entertaining:

Most nights we had dessert, in fact I may have ordered more than one:

You've heard it before, but it was free so I thought I would sample everything that sounded good :) You can probably tell, but the servings were small too. Actually, the servings were small everywhere we went, that's why we ordered multiple courses - no shame here!

After dinner, they had live entertainment at 9:30 every night. Who knew I was going to see a Mexican circus, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Adele, Michael Jackson & so many more while we were on vacation! Some were a little cheesy, but some were actually pretty good.

So there you have it - that was pretty much what we did on vacation every day. Not much changes when we travel to a regular resort that is not all inclusive, except we don't usually gain 5 pounds from eating so much! I mean seriously, how do you stock a refrigerator in your room with oreos, m&m's & snickers & not expect your guests to eat it? Or in our case, put them in our backpacks to take home so we can eat them later :)

It was definitely a fun & relaxing trip & I am so thankful that we got to spend time together just the two of us. And from what I hear, the girls had just as much fun spending time with their grandparents, so thank you Mimi, Doc, Grammy & Grandpa! I will definitely miss the view but I love having pictures to look out whenever I need a pick me up at home:
