Backyard Oasis - Week 7

Ok guys, we are getting so close to wrapping this project up & I am getting so excited! It has been a stressful couple of weeks with all of the work going on & there has been a lot of work on our end, so I am really ready for things to slow down.

Last Saturday was day 40 & it was another loud & busy day. The roofers were here early in the morning & had our house officially finished by early afternoon. The stone guys were here also & they finished the fireplace & the outdoor kitchen:

No one came on Sunday, but they haven't the entire time & honestly, I am fine with everyone taking one day off. Hopefully everyone enjoyed time with their family. Monday was a little slow, but there was still activity. We came home around lunchtime to find a dump truck full of dirt in our backyard, which Sadie thought was pretty cool:

I don't know if you remember, but at the very beginning of this project when they started digging our pool, the ground behind the pool, right in front of the retaining wall started sinking in due to a leak on our neighbor's property. Anyway, they used this dirt to fill that in:

On Tuesday, they dropped off our pavers, which will be used for our decking:

And they did some more plumbing work:

They cut down most of the pipes & started fitting them. They also put this stuff around all of the pipes, lighting, drains, etc. that keeps the moisture out to prevent leaks. Of course they told me in more detail & what the name of the product was, but I can't remember......

Wednesday - Friday they worked on our decking. They were here by 7:30 every morning & worked until 5:00 every day. When we came home from MOPS at lunchtime on Wednesday, we saw them hard at work:

I will not go in to detail about this process, but it was very time consuming. We started by spray painting the outline of the decking & they marked it off with wood & tied string everywhere:

And they built up several layers with dirt & gravel. I didn't measure how high they built it up, but it had to be level with the coping of the pool:

Then they would drive this machine around that would flatten it & smooth it out:

I'm sure there was more involved than that, but that's what I saw :) And they did this several times until it was time to lay the pavers:

They laid each piece but the outside edges were kind of overlapping, so they went in with a pencil & marked where the original spray paint was & then they cut the outside pieces to fit. This part was really messy. In fact, our back porch was so dirty, I could barely see out the windows. But I will say this group of guys was the most professional by far. They cleaned up every day & really cleaned the property when the job was complete. They picked up all of the trash, swept away all of the dirt & then sprayed everything down with the water hose.

Finally, we got to walk around outside & see everything yesterday. It is amazing how different it looks now that everything is built up:

On one side of our pool, which is by our master bedroom, we had additional decking added because it is wasted space. We have grass on this side of the yard, but I don't anticipate us really using it. It's a little narrower than I originally wanted, but we have a gutter & some plumbing by the house & they told us we needed to keep that uncovered:

And then we had it laid on the side of the pool towards the grotto:

We are hoping to do landscaping along this side of the pool & the back. I also left a small flower bed open in front on our master bedroom:

And another small flower bed on the other side of the patio:

This is the guest bedroom & bathroom on the back side of our house & as you can see, we made a walkway to the bathroom where we are installing the door. Here is one last view of the decking from another angle of the pool:

While we were outside walking around last night, we noticed that the stone guys came back yesterday afternoon while we were gone. They finished the hot tub & they added glass tile borders to all of the steps & benches:

I cannot believe how close we are to being finished! Our last major project is putting up our new fence & then they can plaster the pool. Of course there are some minor things to finish, but overall, the project is coming close to an end.
