Backyard Oasis - Week 5

When we came home on Monday, I found piles of cedar wood in our backyard:

They may not have worked on Labor Day, but at least they dropped off the supplies. They did show up early the next morning & got busy. This is what it looked like when we came home at lunchtime:

There were about 6 men & they were working hard getting that patio cover built! They stayed until almost 8:00 that night & this was what it looked like at the end of the day:

I know, the back our house looks busy with the architecture, but that is the best design plan we could come up with. I am just so excited to have a fully protected structure so it will be a little cooler & we won't have to worry as much about wind/rain/snow, etc.

Wednesday was day 30 & they pretty much finished the patio cover & got it shingled:

Of course they aren't finished yet, but there is a huge pile of trash that they left behind :(

They actually had to stop to have the inspector come out before they close everything up & finish. He actually came today & we got another green tag - yippee! In case you are wondering what our porch looked like before, here it is:

It was tiny. They obviously built over the existing roof & raised the new roof much higher, in fact I love the height! It makes it look bigger & it will help with ventilation for the grill & the fireplace. Speaking of, that got dropped off yesterday:

We are installing a vent less fireplace. Due to city code, we couldn't do a real fireplace with a chimney because our house is too tall. But I think this will work good enough & will look beautiful once the stone guys work their magic on it. It even came with fake fireplace logs, so that's one less thing I have to buy!

It doesn't sound like anything will happen this weekend, but the gutter guy came over today & let me pick the color of the gutters & he said he would be back to install them on Monday & supposedly they are going to finish the patio cover since we passed inspection. Next up is the stonework again so they can build our fireplace & outdoor kitchen!
