Our First Night Away.....

This seems like old news now, but I do try to blog about everything because I have a horrible memory & I have found that my blog tends to be our family diary. And it is the easiest way to share pictures :)

As I mentioned last week, Bryan & I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary the same day Sophie turned 4 months old. Why is that important? Well, it is for many reasons, obviously, but it was also the first night we spent the night without her. Normally we would have gone on vacation some where to celebrate a milestone anniversary, but I was no where near ready to leave Sophie for that long. I was doing good for 1 night away! So, Bryan's parents came over on Friday morning while we packed our bags & snuck out. We spent the day relaxing & spoiling ourselves. We started with manis & pedis followed by lunch. Then we checked in to our hotel which was just down the street. We actually had a free night at the Westin Stonebriar that included brunch on Saturday morning that expired the end of April, so it was perfect timing! And I called a few weeks early to book our reservation & after I gave them our whole story (you know - 10th anniversary, new baby, first night away, etc.) they totally hooked us up with an executive suite! Bryan spoiled himself even more by having a masseuse come to the room for a deep tissue massage. Apparently he had a lot of knots & he needed his muscles loosened after training for that half marathon! I took advantage of the beautiful weather & enjoyed the resort. I used the gym & read a magazine out by the pool. It kind of felt like we were on vacation, even though we were only 5 minutes from our house!

Bryan told me we had to be ready by 5:30 that night, but I had no idea why. We had the first knock on the door around that time & the hotel treated us again:

I'm telling you - we didn't pay for anything at the hotel & it was all free - we got the hook up!

A few minutes later, there was another knock on the door:

I hadn't seen this woman in 10 years, but I remembered her as soon as I saw her - she was our personal jeweler! Bryan worked with her to design my engagement ring & then she helped us design both of our wedding bands. Five years later, Bryan worked with her again to surprise me with diamond earrings for our 5th anniversary. This time he thought he would include me instead of surprising me:

Don't worry - I was still surprised! I had no idea! Apparently, Bryan thought I needed a 3 stone necklace to match my engagement ring. I guess he doesn't like the faux diamond necklace that I wear :) Anyway, it was a lot of fun looking at different designs & learning about diamonds again (cut, clarity, etc.):

And Shelly is the best! If anyone needs help finding any type of  jewelry, let me know & we will pass on her information.

After our surprise meeting, Bryan & I finally ended the night at Jasper's. We went for dinner & they also surprised us with dessert:

That night was even greater because we could sleep without the glow of a monitor screen or sound of the ocean coming from Sophie's room. And I didn't have to wake up the next morning & wash bottles :)

Even though we were only gone for 1 night, it was well worth it. Bryan & I had a great time at dinner reminiscing about the past 10 years & what we have to look forward to in our future. Plus, I was able to go my first night away from Sophie :) And Bryan's parents got to spend some extra time with the girls. Maybe our next trip away will be longer than 1 night.......
