Good News, Bad News.......

Unfortunately, I do not have any fun pictures to post this time, but I do have some news to update you on. Bryan had his follow-up appointment with his Oncologist yesterday afternoon and we reviewed all of his tests from last week. The good news is that his bone marrow test was negative and his PET scan looked clean - so the only cancer cells they could find are in his neck & chest, which is where we already knew they were. This means he is only Stage 2. We knew he was a minimum of Stage 2, we were just hoping it wasn't farther advanced and luckily it wasn't.

The bad news is that the mass in his chest has grown - originally we thought it was only 10 cm and now it is 12 cm. Since it is larger than we originally thought, he has to do more treatments. We had hoped to get away with only 4 monthls of chemotherapy, but now he will have 6 months of chemotherapy. After that, he will still have 4-6 weeks of radiation, which basically puts his treatments going until the end of the year.

Tomorrow is his first treatment. We will be meeting with the Oncologist again at 8:15 and once cleared, he will begin his first cycle of chemotherapy. His protocol calls for a combination of 4 different types of chemotherapy drugs and we will probably be at the doctor's office for 5-6 hours. The good news is that we are ready to get his treatments started so we can move past this phase of his life, but the bad news is that he is a little nervous about his first treatment. So please say a little prayer for Bryan tomorrow morning as he conquers the first of many long days ahead!

  1. Dear God,
I want to lift up my sweet friend Shaye and her husband, Bryan to you. I pray that you help them through this phase in their lives. I pray that Bryan feels your peace and love as he goes through treatment. I also pray that you calm his fears tomorrow. We know that you will see him through this. Be with the doctors and nurses caring for Bryan...I pray that they see what a special patient they have. I pray for Shaye's strength and faith through all of this and know that she and Bryan will be stronger together because of this.
    In Your Name I pray,
    Amen
