Sadie has played soccer since she was 3 years old and we moved her from a rec league to a competitive team when she was going into 2nd grade. We were so fortunate to have found her coach at that time that she has played for the past 6 years, however, we decided that after that long, it was probably time to finally move to a new team with a new coach. It was not an easy decision & definitely a stressful spring, but we took our time researching new teams, new coaches & she went to a lot of try outs. Thankfully in May, she was offered a spot on a FC Dallas team & she accepted:
She has been practicing with hew new team for about 2 months now and so far, it has been a great change! She loves her new coach; her new teammates & I love that her new club is only 5 minutes from our house. After commuting for the past several years to all of her practices, we are finally saving time & money. Plus, she knows a lot of girls who play for them including one of her best friends from church:
Layla is technically a year younger in soccer, but they are still excited to play for the same club. Signing day was July 1 so we had fun trying on & ordering her new uniform kit. And her new team had a pizza party & a pool party to celebrate. Her new coach is Coach Manny & he has been great with her so far:
This coach didn't give an official summer conditioning program, but when she wasn't at strength & conditioning for middle school, she did train a few times on her own. She mostly ran outside but the girls did go with me to the gym a few times & she even ran on vacation:
Thank goodness she stayed in shape because they had their first tournament this past weekend with King Tut. Her whole team is new, so this was their first time playing together. It was a slow start Saturday morning & they lost 1-0, which isn't bad for their very first game. Later that day they tied, 1-1, but let's be honest, we missed a penalty kick & they got one they didn't deserve. We should have won 2-0 but still, we saw improvement. And then Sunday morning they finally clicked & won 7-0! And guess what, Sadie scored her first FC Dallas goal:
She has primarily played left back, which is a defensive position, for the past 6 years but her coach must see something different in her because he played her mid field. She had so much confidence, and we loved seeing her do things with the ball we hadn't seen in a while. I am really excited about the new soccer season for her! Even better, one of her closest friends who she used to play on the Renegades with, joined the same team so these 2 have been inseparable:
Surprisingly, she has 2 friends from school on her team & she knows a few more from other middle schools in Frisco:
Let's go FC Dallas!
