Life Lately - Quarantine Edition

When we left for Hawaii, we were aware of Covid-19, but honestly I had no idea how quickly or how bad it would spread to America. Thankfully we enjoyed 2 weeks in paradise & the coronavirus hadn't really hit Hawaii yet, but while we were there we started getting emails & alerts about everything going on at home. Bryan wanted to stay in Hawaii longer since we had nothing to come home to, but honestly, I was afraid the longer we stayed, the harder it would be to get home. Thank goodness we left because one week later, Hawaii had been hit & all of the resorts had been closed. I made us self isolate as much as possible when we returned because I was more afraid of one of us having the virus & spreading it since we traveled than us actually picking it up at home. And we've done pretty good. Yesterday was day 14 & we have finally figured out our rhythm of all of us being home & learning how to work & do school together. Here is a little look at our life lately, the quarantine edition:

I officially home school. Just like every one else! We are very social people so we miss getting out & going to school every day seeing our friends & volunteering, but I think we home school pretty well together! The girls & I get along pretty well & we haven't had any problems so far! Thank goodness we live in a technologically advanced world where everything is done online. The girls even have virtual class meetings once a week:

Before this pandemic, I had literally never even heard of Zoom & now we have Zoom calls multiple times a day! I love it & hate it at the same time if that makes sense. Our life group still meets every Sunday morning for an hour through Zoom & that is one of the times I really appreciate having it:

I have really enjoyed getting to stay updated with all of the couples in our class! Afterwards, we stream worship service so we can have church at home. Our church even sends the kids their bible lessons for the week so Bryan spends an hour every Sunday with the girls teaching. Last Sunday we talked about being forgiven & he had us worn on a project together:

Several of our activities have continued. Sadie still has mandatory soccer practice with her coach through Zoom every Monday & Wednesday evening:

She literally still has a 1 hour practice each time. One practice is conditioning & the other is skills. On top of that, she has to run 1 mile twice a week & have 2 other individual practices at home. I first I thought it was a little over the top for an 8 year old, but she enjoys it & honestly, it gets her up & active, especially after doing school online all day.

Sophie also has virtual dance:

She has a jazz & a tap class on demand that she can do any time and then they live stream a class on Thursday afternoons. Sadie has enjoyed dancing with her also!

Back to school, the girls have special classes also. They have to do one assignment for library, music, art, PE & counseling. They have spent a lot of time outside doing art for our neighbors:

And we have even had neighbors leave art for us:

Our school has gone above & beyond trying to help our kids maintain some sort of normalcy. Last week they surprised us & had a parade through our neighborhood:

All of the staff decorated their cars, honked their horns & had posters for the kids. It was so fun! Anything just to get us outside! Plus we saw friends, which made it even more exciting:

Don't worry, we definitely stayed more than 6 feet away!

Our principal also surprised the kids last Friday when they taped a virtual Good Morning Pink pep rally & sent it out. We surprised the girls with it first thing that morning when they woke up:

Last weekend was Sadie's teacher's birthday so the kids made her a virtual birthday card & it was so cute:

I keep telling Bryan thank goodness this happened this time of year because the weather has been awesome so we have spent a lot of time outside. Lots of bike rides, lots of walks, lots of conversations with neighbors (6 feet away of course!) and in our backyard. Thank goodness we got a trampoline for Christmas because we have definitely used that! Last weekend we spent the whole time outside cleaning out the garages & our back patio. We finally took down the fence around our pool since the girls are old enough:

It's amazing how much more space we have now! And since we got it all cleaned off from winter, we can actually work, home school & eat outside again! It's like having an extended living room :)

The girls got this basketball goal for Christmas so Bryan put it together:

And since we have nothing else to do, we officially opened the pool for spring/summer. It was even warm enough for the girls to swim without us heating it:

Let me clarify, they swam in the unheated pool but we did heat the hot tub so they could go back & forth.

Finally, besides neighbors, we haven't seen anyone. In fact, the only time I have really left the house is to go to the grocery store but last Friday night, I heard a car so I looked in the driveway & saw a truck. When I went outside, all I saw was a couple wearing masks & gloves holding a note asking if they could come in & visit as a social distance:

It was so funny & surprising! I wish I would have gotten a picture of that! They only stayed for a few hours but they brought us a lot of quarantine supplies. By the time we got home from Hawaii, the shelves were empty. My mom also went to a special bakery in Houston & picked up all sorts of gluten free goodies for Sadie so she was thrilled about that! We maintained our distance & my mom legit wore her mask & gloves most of the time, but we sure enjoyed dinner & conversation before they headed home.

So that's our life lately. The past 2 weeks haven't been that bad, although we just came off from 2 weeks in paradise, so that helped. And we have had lots of projects to keep us busy. We are usually so busy that the down time has been good for our family. Ask me if I feel the same way one month from now since we are officially at home until May 4th now!
