GA Pinewood Derby Race 2018

After a stressful week of sanding, painting & trying to figure out what we are supposed to be doing to Sadie's derby car, we finally had her big race! We met at the church Wednesday night but instead of having their normal GA meeting, they had the pinewood derby race in the auditorium. We had no idea what to expect because 1. we have never done this before and 2. isn't this normally a boy thing? Jamie & I kept joking that they should have had a baking contest with the girls! To our surprise, we walked in & were pleasantly surprised how much they decorated & how exciting everything looked. They had a snack table in the back:

Games on one side:

with arts & crafts on the other side:

Sophie had a blast making a car out of cookies, icing & candy!

Of course the main attraction was the race itself. GA's start at kindergarten so the young girls went first. There are 7 girls in her class but one of the girls hadn't made it there with her car yet:

There were so many cute cars! Especially some of the older girls who have done this before. Their cars were really crafty. All of the other cars were very girlie but sweet Sadie's looked kind of boyish but it is exactly what she wanted - orange with a Longhorn, the Texas flag & her number on the side:

Bryan & I had no idea what we were doing, but we definitely picked up a few tips for next year:

I have to admit, I was pretty impressed with the race track & the set up. You can tell they have done this a time or two!

Sadie's car raced several times against the kindergarteners & she ended up getting 4th place out of 7. That's not too bad for our first time, right?! We were just happy her car finished & she didn't lose a tire :) My favorite part was watching all of them cheering & getting excited for the races:

The top 2 cars from each grade went on to compete at the end against all the winners & 2 of her friends in kindergarten took 1st & 4th overall. Sadie was so excited for them!

We ended up having such a fun night & can't wait to do this again next year with Sadie & again when Sophie is old enough also!
