Kindergarten Spring Field Trip - Frisco Fire Safety Town

Last Friday Sadie had her spring field trip with the kindergarteners to:

Out city is so fortunate to have this. It is a working fire station in the middle of downtown, but it also has a miniature city built outside with different businesses representing Frisco. It even has a toll road, red lights, cross walks, etc. I took the girls here for a play date when they were much younger but this was a great age for Sadie to actually learn. She was definitely excited about Safety Town, but she was more excited about riding a school bus:

When they first got there, they went inside a class room to learn all about 911:

They had a slide show & power point presentation but it was very interactive because they gave each kid their own clicker to choose answers to the quiz that was on the screen:

They got to hear several real 911 calls & learned what to do & say if they ever needed to call. Most of the kids raise their hands all the time because they all have something to say, but at the end, she asked for a volunteer to practice calling 911 in front of the group. Of course several kids raised their hands, but then she said you had to know your real address where you live & your parent's phone numbers to participate. To my surprise, most of the kids put their hands down except for this eager beaver:

Somehow she was chosen & I was so proud of her. Not only for being brave enough to participate in front of everyone, but also for knowing her personal data in case of an emergency:

You can see the screen above what her emergency scenario was - she was cooking & her kitchen set on fire. She had to go find the phone & call 911 & it went to a "real" operator who we could hear talking to her. They asked her a lot of questions & she calmly gave her name, her age & her address. She even told them we had a dog, which of course we don't. But she said she was home alone, so she pretended to grab the dog & went outside to wait by the mailbox until the fire truck arrived:

Once they finished class, they got to head outside to Safety Town. This is her class in front of City Hall:

The other class got to ride jeeps first so Mrs. Dunham's class got to practice walking around town & following directions. Let's just saw we have a lot of jaywalkers out there who haven't quite learned how to read signs yet!

Finally it was there turn to drive. Sadie & Hadley rode together & thankfully she is a pretty good driver since we have a car at home, but stopping at all the stop signs & red lights is another story!

It was a fun morning & I am glad I got to help volunteer:
