Bryan & I have been to San Francisco several times & we have done most of the main tourist attractions - Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, etc. Last time we tried something new & we biked from the city over the golden gate bridge to Sausalito. This time we did something even better - we met in Sausalito & sailed the East Bay:
Bryan's old boss/friend/colleague lives in Orinda (a suburb of San Fran) & invited us to stay with them for the weekend. They are members of a sailing club & when they asked if we wanted to go we couldn't say yes fast enough! We have been sailing on catamarans before on vacation, but nothing like this. We drove to Sausalito to board a 37 foot sailboat:
Neither of us have ever been on a boat like this before. It had 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom & a kitchen. Pretty cool. We stopped at the grocery store on the way & stocked up so we could snack & eat lunch while we sailed all day. I have several pictures of us because they kept taking them, so please hang in there. The first is in front of the golden gate bridge:
Can you see it there in the background? Next is in front of the city:
And this is a fake picture of us steering the boat:
We really didn't! But Bryan did get to be First Mate & learned how to help drive & steer:
We stopped at Angel Island which is a state park of California:
We ate lunch & then hiked around. We even saw deer:
Apparently deer roam the island freely & were obviously not afraid. Then we met up with a friend, Jonah, who happened to be out boating after work so he joined our cruise:
That's Jonah with Laura. Laura is Bryan's friend who I talked out above. Her & her husband Jason were amazing hosts this weekend & we had an absolute blast staying at their house:
We sailed until sunset & then it got pretty cold & we realized that we better head back towards land:
It was a beautiful day & even though it got cold, it was pretty neat watching the fog roll in over the city & seeing a full moon when it got dark. Thank you Laura & Jason for such an awesome experience!
The next day we slept in but had some time to kill before we headed to the football game so we went to the Lafayette Reservoir:
There was a 3 mile trail that went around the lake & through the mountains so we went for a morning run. It was beautiful but it definitely wore me out because I am not used to the hills!
I finally got a picture from our friends Joel & Jenna at the Texas Exes tailgate:
We had a great time celebrating before the game - too bad we didn't have anything to celebrate after!
