Sadie's Birthday Weekend

It's official - as of yesterday, I know longer have a baby, but a busy two year old toddler! That's right, Sadie turned 2 yesterday (last night to be exact) & we tried to celebrate as best we could. For those who haven't heard, we had a major ice storm blow in on Thursday afternoon & we have basically hibernated since then. I picked Sadie up from school on Thursday afternoon & our weekend headed straight down hill from there. When I picked her up, her teachers told me that she started feeling bad & running a 102 fever during nap time. I knew the storm was coming & it was has birthday, so I took her straight to the doctor. Poor thing - she looked pitiful!

Luckily this was the first time we have ever taken her to the doctor for a sick appointment. She has had the occasional cold here or there, but nothing major. She ran fever for a couple of days, didn't eat as much as normal & watched a lot of tv.

I guess it was a good weekend to be sick since we were stuck at the house! I am not exaggerating when I say that it was really a bad ice storm. It looked pretty outside, but it was not snow - it was 3-4 inches of pure ice. The neighbor kids loved it & they took turns sledding down our driveway but they never even made an indention in our yard because the ice was so hard. It did look beautiful with all of the Christmas lights glistening around the neighborhood!

Poor Sadie didn't get to go out & play since she was sick & running fever, but we did give her an early birthday present on Saturday to help cheer her up:

I don't think she realized what it was right away, but she loved the pink box & she definitely recognized Minnie Mouse! But she figured it out as soon as Bryan started putting it together:

The good news/bad news is that we were supposed to have Sadie's birthday party on Saturday morning, but due to the weather, we had to cancel it. I was really bummed because I planned it really early this year because I knew I would be pregnant & close to my due date, so I booked a party room at one of her favorite places. I already had her birthday outfit laid out, lunch & cakes ordered with 40 people reserved to come. I had been telling everyone that I didn't care when the baby came as long as I made it through Sadie's party :( The good news is that since she was sick, it probably wouldn't have been fun anyway. We are still going to have it, but we will probably wait until January. I am too close to delivering any day now & everyone else is too busy with the holidays. Luckily she isn't old enough to know the difference!

By Sunday, she was feeling back to her old self, but everything was cancelled still - including church. So we tried our hardest to celebrate that day just the 3 of us since it was her actual birthday. I made a special breakfast just for her & we let her blow out her candle a couple of times that day :)

Later that night, we improvised & gave her chocolate pudding for her birthday dessert. Unfortunately, this was her first time to have it & she really didn't enjoy it like I thought she would.

Instead, she made a mess, which she didn't like, so we ended up stripping her down for the night, thus the reason she is only wearing a diaper when she got to open her other birthday gift:

This gift wasn't as fun, but it was more sentimental from Mother to Daughter. I bought her a jewelry box which is very similar to mine, except hers is white & has her name etched in pink writing on the top glass lid. It is beautiful & since she is getting older, we now have some place to store her jewelry & she can put it on while we are getting her ready for the day. It's not like she has a ton of jewelry now, but she does have a couple of pairs of earrings & a few necklaces.

Overall we had a fun weekend together even though it wasn't as we anticipated. I believe we had 7 events scheduled from Thursday to Sunday that were all cancelled, but it forced us to spend time at home just the 3 of us, which was probably good timing since our new little one be joining us any day. It also forced me to slow down & relax, which I probably needed. And Bryan helped out a lot getting things ready around the house for the new baby & for Christmas. Our media room looks like Santa's toy factory upstairs! And we will still have plenty of time to celebrate Sadie's birthday with her friends in January once the holidays slow down. And she'll even get to celebrate with her baby sister there!
