5th Grade Camp at Allaso Ranch 2024

2 years ago, I went to Allaso ranch with Sadie's 5th grade class for their class camp trip & earlier this week, I got to go again with Sophie:

It is about 2 1/2 hours away from our house, so we met at the school early Monday morning to drop off the kids & their luggage while we watched them load their buses:

Can you tell she was just a little excited?! I knew that I was chaperoning with a friend, so we knew we had our 2 girls in our group, but we didn't know who else we had until this morning. Thankfully we had a small group with 6 girls & they were awesome! As soon as we got there, we had lunch & went straight to learning. They call this Outdoor University because they really do go to a lot of neat classes where they get to learn everything from astrology to geosciences, how to use a compass & even riding horses:

We saw a lot of animals, but Sophie was most excited to see the Longhorns:

After a few classes, they had recreation time, which was basically free time to do whatever they want. Of course, our girls ran straight to the zipline first:

Then they went on the water:

Camp was beautiful this time of year. The leaves had changed & the weather was crisp but sunny:

But the temperature dropped as soon as the sun went down! We met outside on the soccer field to have a night class where we learned all about the stars & the constellations. It was a perfect night with the clearest skies I have ever seen & it was so neat to learn about everything:

When we went back to the cabin, the girls cleaned up & then we had a dance party:

We were assigned a group of boys that we were partnered with during the day, so we surprised all of the kids with red gear to show our team spirit while we were there:

I can't stress enough how lucky we were - I was partnered with Kimberlee, who happens to be a good friend & I am friends with the wives of the 2 dads we were partnered with:

After breakfast, we went back to learning. Our first class was one of their favorites - they made butter & candles:

Then they got to use a saw & try to build our log cabin:

After lunch, they had rec time again & this time I talked Sophie into zip lining with me:

Then they hit up the snack shack & we had to tag along with them because I had the money. Ha!

Our last night we had the campfire with team chants, fire pits & s'mores. It is always my favorite:

We took a few chaperone pictures also:

Another favorite - our onesie fashion show! We turned our cabin into a catwalk where the girls strutted their stuff & we took pictures - so cute:

The next morning, we were up early! The girls had to get ready, pack & load their luggage before breakfast. That meant a 6:30 wake up call, but they were troopers & we made it:

Rain was in the forecast & I really nervous about it messing up our plans but somehow it worked perfectly! We were supposed to have a picnic breakfast outside that they just moved to the dining hall & instead of having outdoor classes, we had indoor classes. Our final class of camp was teambuilding so thank goodness we had already gone canoeing & rode horses. We didn't really miss out on anything:

Our closing show was inside also & the red team won most spirited, which did not surprise me at all:

On the way home, we talked the girls into riding with us instead of taking the bus:

so we could make a pit stop at Bucee's:

and while we were there, we saw friends from another school who was at their 5th grade camp at a different location:

We had the best time & I am SO glad I got to chaperone with both of the girls. I always love getting to spend extra time with both of my girls, but it's even better getting to hang out with their friends & classmates too. And let's be honest, getting paired with a chaperone who happens to be a good friend is icing on the cake. Thank you Allaso Ranch for being wonderful hosts & to our 5th grade teachers for planning such a wonderful trip for our kids.
