It's not often that we have 4 days straight over a holiday weekend with no games at all, so since the girls were out of school & we had no plans, we headed to Austin! We don't go to Austin very often, but usually when we do, it's to go to a UT football game. This trip, we went to my sister's house to spend time with them & to just be tourists! My sister planned out our weekend & we had the best time! Friday night, she arranged for a babysitter to watch all 5 kids so we could go out downtown on a double date:
We had a fabulous dinner at Salty Sow then we ended up for drinks & dessert at the Fairmont Hotel. It might have been a rainy night, but we still had fun!
The next morning, we all slept in & we were all lazy:
Eventually we got ready & made the 1 hour trip down to New Braunfels. We were excited to let the kids swim & play in the river at Landa Park but after we made the drive, we realized that because of all of the rain, they had closed the river. Ugh. Instead we let the kids play at the park for a few minutes then we jumped back in the car. We stopped at Bucee's to get gas & decided to have our picnic lunch in the car since we couldn't have it there:
The kids had been so excited to swim so we took them to their neighborhood pool instead:
Saturday night we cleaned up & headed back downtown, this time we had the kids with us. We had an awesome dinner on the patio at Matt's El Rancho, one of Bryan's favorites, then we headed to the South Congress bridge to watch the bats:
This is one of those bucket list items that I have always wanted to do in Austin but hadn't done yet. Afterwards, we headed to another Austin staple for dessert - ice cream at Amy's:
On Sunday, we went on a quick hike that afternoon up to the 360 bridge:
Thankfully it was perfect weather so we had the best view of the river, the bridge, the golf course & downtown:
That night we headed to a local distillery & had dinner while the kids ran around & played. We got caught in the middle of a rain storm, but we waited it out & still had fun. Somehow I didn't get any pictures that night at dinner or at our dance party. That's right, we had a dance party in their backyard that night & had so much fun! Literally, it might have been our favorite part of the weekend! The next morning, we slept in, had another lazy morning before we headed back to Dallas. It was the best weekend & I am so glad we were able to get away for a few days. We thoroughly enjoyed being Austin tourists & spending extra time with the Clayton Crew. Thank Nat for organizing such a fun weekend for all of us:
