After our busy day ziplining & shopping in Lahaina, we decided to relax & spend the next day at our resort. I signed up the girls for a class on lei making that morning. Instead of making a necklace like we got when we arrived, we made a headband instead:
Our teacher was Auntie Wendie & she was amazing! She taught us so much about Hawaiian culture & everything we used she hand picked from around the resort:
Since she had plenty of orchids & leaves, I made one as well! Bryan stopped in to watch us & of course we had to take pictures when we finished:
It was a fun morning & I had fun trying something new, but afterwards the girls were ready to head to the pool! The first few days they did not have the big water fountain on but they surprised us this morning:
Can you see them under there?! This was probably the cloudiest day & it would sprinkle on & off. It never really bothered the girls because they just kept on swimming but Bryan & I stayed dry & warm under the cabana:
Obviously a little rain didn't stop me from enjoying my drink or my book!
That night we went to dinner & afterwards we hit up our favorite ice cream shop:
Thankfully we woke up the next day & the rain had moved on. It was a beautiful day! Our resort offered Hawaiian canoeing & I was really excited to go out so we could see the whales, but unfortunately Sophie was not old enough. We dropped her off at the kids club:
and then we headed to the beach with Sadie. We got a quick training on how to canoe together then we paddled out into the water:
We had seen whales all week from the resort. Literally, you would just be sitting on the balcony or by the pool & you could see them blow water or jump up but I didn't know if we would see any out in the canoe. Thank goodness we did! We think we saw a mom, her baby & a male escort & it was amazing! We were so close & I tried to get pictures but I was a little nervous being out in the middle of the ocean on this little canoe with my phone:
The first 2 pictures show it swimming by us but then the 3rd picture you can see the water being blown. Finally I was able to capture his tail when he dove out of the water:
Can you see the mom tail on the left & the baby tail on the right?! I mean so, so cool! I have never been this close to a whale before! And we didn't even pay for the whale tour - we just saw it when we were out canoeing:
And yes, we even had to wear our masks while we were out paddling. They only let us pull them down for the picture. But check out our resort as we paddled back to shore:
When we got back, we picked up Sophie & headed straight to the beach! The girls got souvenir footballs & volleyballs for the water & they had a fun time throwing the ball with Bryan:
This was our hottest day by far & we spent the most time in the water. Of course we splurged on drinks:
Bryan discovered the serenity mojito, which was basically a blueberry mojito. He literally ordered one every single day. Know what else we got every single day?
Ice cream & snow cones. I know, ridiculous. We literally ate so much dessert on this vacation but I guess that's what vacations are for, right?!
That night we cleaned up for dinner & Bryan took a picture of the girls & I getting ready because we were all 3 wearing our robes:
What can I say - the girls are following in their mom's footsteps!
