Another fall season, means another trip to the State Fair of Texas! We have literally gone every single year since the girls were born. In fact, we were talking last night about our first trip - Sadie was 10 months old. I specifically remember what Sadie was wearing the first time we pushed her around the fair for the first time in the stroller :)
We picked up the girls from school & headed straight there. First up on our list?
Corn dogs from Fletcher's! We have the system down - we know exactly where to park at a side gate where it is easy to get in & there is a Fletcher's booth right when you walk in & it never has a line. That picture cracks me up because Bryan was pretending to eat all 4 corn dogs & you can see Sadie trying to grab it from him:
We all want our corn dogs! We wait all year for them :)
We walked through the Midway, eating our corn dogs & headed straight to the children's barn. First up we walked through the barnyard & the girls fed animals:
They crack me up because neither of our girls really like animals. They don't like the smell, they don't like getting dirty & they hardly feed them. This was actually the first time Sophie has ever been this close to feeding an animal:
She even asked for Bryan to pick her up so she could see the ostrich:
But their favorite animal was the longhorn:
That's right girls - Hook 'Em!
Next up, Little Hands on the Farm:
They picked crops, harvested eggs, worked in the garden & even milked a cow. Eventually, they upgraded from their little tractors to full size tractors:
We walked around the dairy barn and had fun trying samples & playing games:
We briefly walked through part of the car exhibit where we found the biggest tailgate game I have ever seen:
Finally we found Big Tex on our way to the food pavilion:
Bryan & I always love the food - that is our favorite part of the fair. He always gets the same thing - corn dog, tater twisters & siracha balls. I always want to try something new & this year did not disappoint. First I tried this:
I love pasta & not just any pasta, fettuccini alfredo is my favorite so when I read about this, I new I had to try it:
It may look disgusting in the picture but it was so good! It was basically a big scoop of the pasta rolled into the ball, deep fried & then covered with alfredo sauce & parmesan cheese. I literally had to fight my child for it:
Sophie loves pasta as much as I do!
The girls kept saying they wanted cotton candy but I told them we had something else we had to try:
I actually heard about this on the news:
As much as I love pasta, I love sweets even more! And so do my family:
We were all 4 fighting over this. To the point where Bryan wanted to buy a second one because it was so good & we just couldn't get enough :)
Eventually we headed back to the midway which is all the girls really wanted to do:
They are really into Halloween this year now that they are older so they asked if they could go on the Haunted House ride:
This was definitely our first haunted house experience & Sadie loved it!
Sophie did not!
Poor girl, she looked ok when the ride was over but as soon as she got off, she lost it. I think we may have traumatized her!
Eventually she calmed down when we took her to the kiddie rides. She became brave again when she asked to ride the little kid roller coaster, which is big for her! She did not want to ride this last year:
Then they rode the swings:
before heading to the big roller coaster for Sadie. Last year I rode with her so this year it was Bryan's turn:
We ended the night with games. I don't mind spending money on food & rides but those dang games. We let them choose 1 game each & thankfully they have certain games where kids are guaranteed a prize so that definitely helps:
It was a great night. A cold front was supposed to blow in so it was hotter than we expected, but since the front blew in later, the rain held off. And it wasn't too busy since it was a school night. They might have been a little tired this morning for school but it was worth the trip. This is definitely one of those fun traditions that I look forward to every fall:
