Ice Skating at the Galleria

We kicked off our winter break with a surprise for the girls. As soon as Sadie got out of school, we headed to the Dallas Galleria. I have been wanting to take the girls for years but Bryan hasn't wanted to go down there. Until this year. I kept telling the girls it will be the biggest mall they had ever been to & I think they thought I was exaggerating. Until we got there & Sadie said "Mom, there are 4 floors!"

Sadie has been begging to go ice skating so she headed right out there:

Sophie sat on the side at first & said she didn't want to go. Until I dragged her out there! Literally, she was crying & I made her at least go on the ice & try it. Poor girl was scared to death but I showed her the rails that they had all the way around & that helped:

It probably took her 20 minutes to make it all the way around the first time & then she got a little more confident & started going by herself:

Every now & then she would get tired & take a break:

There may have been another struggle getting her to go out in the middle of the ice so we could take a picture in front of the tree:

Eventually, we even got her to skate in the middle of the ice holding both of our hands:

By the end, she was so confident she would stand by the wall & let go saying "Look mom, no hands!"

We had the best time. Last year we took them ice skating in Frisco at the Dr. Pepper Arena, but it was freezing & since the ice was so big, I think it was intimidating. This time, it was a smaller rink, the tree was beautiful, the temperature was perfect - I liked it way better:

After skating, Sadie & I shopped at American Girl while Sophie & Bryan visited Santa:

It was the perfect way to kick off our winter break! I have a feeling I may have convinced Bryan that more trips to the Galleria may be in store!
