As I mentioned, we had a fun holiday weekend, but our favorite part might have been the way we ended our weekend. Most of Sadie's friends have never spent the night away before & regular weekends are too difficult with extra curricular activities on Saturday & church on Sunday, so we decided to invite her troop over for our first sleepover on Sunday night. I figured most kids wouldn't have plans on Monday morning since they are usually at school. Most of my friends thought I was crazy, but we had a great time with 11 girls at our house:
We told the girls we had a Halloween theme & most of them came in their Halloween pajamas. We even had Halloween snacks for them & 1 of the girls brought Halloween goodie bags to share:
The girls played, ate & then we played Halloween Bingo:
Sadie planned all of our activities so after games, she thought it would be fun for all of the girls to paint each other's nails:
It was so cute watching them! Next up, I told them it was time to get ready for bed so they all went to the rest room & brushed their teeth:
A few girls didn't bring their toothbrushes so we taught them how to put toothpaste on their finger & brush their teeth that way :) And then we passed out flossers to everyone & they did the flossie dance while they flossed their teeth:
A few of the girls helped put Sophie to bed:
Then we got the rest of the girls settled in upstairs for movie night:
They watched Trolls Sing Along & our first casualty of the night was Giuliana, who fell asleep around midnight:
Next up, Hadley P:
After the movie most of them were still awake so I told them they could read, talk, etc. as long as they were quiet & left the lights off so they wouldn't wake the others. Around 1:30 I had to be the strict mom because they were getting a little out of hand so I threatened to separate them & make them sleep in different rooms & apparently that did the trick because they were all asleep by 2:00:
Who knew 6 & 7 year old girls could stay up until 2:00 in the morning?! Thankfully I went to bed soon after & was up by 6:00 because I had no idea what time they would wake up but I wanted to be prepared. To my surprise they slept until almost 8:30! But when the first woke up, they all woke up. I surprised them with donuts:
The baker even tried to make a flower with the colorful patches on their troop vests. And then we had a few surprise visitors - I invited all of the moms & siblings to stop by & join us for breakfast:
It was a fun night & such a privilege to have the girls over at our house, especially since most of them had never spent the night away before. I was pleasantly surprised that we had not a single issue. No tears, no accidents. I have a feeling we may have opened the door to many more sleepovers in our future!
One final note, on Monday we mostly spent the day recovering & putting the house back together but since it was a holiday & the girls were home from school, we surprised them & took them to the movies that afternoon. We were shocked to look back & see this:
This is the girl who hardly ever sleeps in the car, but guess she was tired after only 6 hours of sleep!
