Yesterday was Sadie's birthday & she finally turned 4! Technically, her birthday won't be late once she starts school, but she is in the older class at pre-school & most of her friends have already turned 4 so she is the youngest. We had a fun filled day full of celebration - it sure gets more fun the older they get!
On the way home from the gym I picked up doughnuts & kolaches for breakfast. We put our elf on the table so she assumed our elf secretly planned the breakfast:
I'm not as crafty as some other moms, but at least I tried to use our Christmas dishes & I made a 4 out of the doughnut holes. In case you are wondering why she had so many candles, I bought a special sprinkle doughnut just for her & put 4 candles in it. I also put candles in their Christmas calendar that morning, so she thought she needed all of them:
Excuse the bed head! I always lay out her clothes the night before because she likes to get 100% ready when she wakes up by herself. I always take her up stairs to brush her teeth & fix her hair after breakfast. Thankfully I got one decent picture of her before she left:
She had school yesterday so we celebrated Frozen all day since that is her favorite. She wore her Elsa dress & had Frozen cookies made to share with her friends at school:
While she was gone, I got to work on her bedroom. She has been asking for a big bed for a while now but I was trying to hold off until her birthday because I knew it would be a fun surprise. We bought one of those beds that convert from a crib to a toddler bed & then a full bed. Best decision ever! The furniture has been good quality & easy to convert. I asked to take a picture of her the night before so we had her last picture as a 3 year old but also her last night in her small bed:
Here was her bedroom before:
And here it was after:
I spent the entire day yesterday converting the bed, waiting for the mattress to be delivered & set up, moving furniture, cleaning her room, washing all of her new stuff & some how I got it all done before she got home. Bryan & I bought the mattress & everything else was birthday gifts from family - the comforter set, mattress pad, sheets, pillows, etc. Thank you Nanny, Granny, Grammy, Grandpa, Aunt Jessica & Uncle Tim! Luckily her room was pretty big & we were able to keep her rocking chair in there. We sit there every night before bedtime to read stories. Sadie was so excited when she saw it, she was speechless! And then climbed up & started jumping. Typical toddler!
Next I surprised Sadie with a special afternoon date to Sharkey's. Poor girl barely has any hair but she has been asking for a haircut, so we finally got one. I didn't want a full cut, but I figured they could just barely trim it. Hopefully that will spur new hair growth?! She got pampered & loved every minute. First they painted her nails purple:
Then they washed her hair with blueberry shampoo:
Next she got to sit in a pink Barbie jeep while they cut, blow dried & styled her hair:
She even walked out of there with a balloon & a lollipop. I don't think she could have been any happier!
Finally, we had been asking her for the past week what she wanted for her birthday dinner. We said we could cook, go out to eat, make a special dessert, whatever & she said she wanted Mexican food. Fine with Bryan & I - we love Mexican! The funniest part is that the whole time we are eating, she kept telling us that they were going to sing to her & bring her dessert:
Now we know the real reason she wanted to go out to eat!
When we got home we had 2 presents for her, 1 from us & 1 from Sophie. I wasn't really going to get her anything since we bought her a new mattress, but Bryan thought she needed something to unwrap. We bought her new tennis shoes since she needed some & Sophie gave her an Elsa watch that flashes:
Who cares about the food, presents or experiences we did all day, all she really cares about is her $10 Elsa watch! She thinks that is the best present ever & is so proud that it came from her sister. Good job Sophie!
It was a fun, spoiled day for Sadie but I try hard to make her birthday special & not just a part of Christmas. But it sure is an expensive month for me!
