Sadie is obsessed with school buses. Every time we pass one, she gets excited, points it out & says that she is going to ride one when she gets bigger. We live less than 2 miles away from all 3 of our assigned schools, so unfortunately we don't see many school buses in our neighborhood, but occasionally we see one around town.
So imagine how surprised she was when her dad set up a play date for her & her friends on a school bus! He had a meeting at the FISD Transportation Office today & he casually asked half joking/half seriously if Sadie could go for a ride. Not only did they say yes, but they said to invite friends!
They did an awesome job of explaining what the bus is for, who drives it, where it goes, etc. First, they taught the kids to line up in a straight line & only enter the bus one at a time:
Well, that was our attempt at a straight line! But all of the kids listened very well. Sadie got to be the leader & was the first one on the bus & she went straight to the back:
We even let Sophie get on the bus:
But she was kind of disappointed that she had to sit in our laps & couldn't run around:
She was also upset because I was sitting in the back by Sadie & she wanted to sit with us. But they taught us that we have to sit on our bottoms & are not allowed to stand up on the bus ride. Most of Sadie's friends were sitting in the front of the bus, so when we stopped, she went to sit with them & I joined Bryan & Sophie:
They also showed the kids where all of the emergency exits are & what happens if you open one. We got to go on a small bus ride around our neighborhood & we made a stop at Pink Elementary, which is our local school the girls will go to:
Again, they talked to us about getting on & off one at a time & lining up. Then they showed us what all of the lights meant, the stop sign, & the front arm used to block people from walking in front of the bus:
When we got back to the Transportation Department, they gave every kid a foam school bus, a school bus coloring book & a school bus piece of candy. Sophie loved the chocolate & she had it everywhere:
Thank you Bryan for organizing a fun field trip for the girls & our friends. We had a great time & it was an educational experience as well:
