For the past couple of months, Sadie has been asking to play soccer & last week she finally got to start:
There is a program for preschoolers called Soccer Shots & they come to the school & pick up your kid from class & meet for 45 minutes after school. They usually play outside so Sadie sees them & has been asking to play for months now, but you had to be 3. We told her that when she turned 3, she could start so as soon as we got back from Christmas break, we got her registered.
She's never really done an organized sport except for swimming. And she knows nothing about soccer - we haven't been to any games nor do we play it at home because Bryan & I aren't really into it, so she really had to learn the basics. In the picture above, she was learning how to dribble. Then they learned control:
Most of the other kids were in it last semester so they are ahead of her. And some of them are already 4, so she is definitely the youngest of the group. There were a few times when she was a tad bit behind trying to figure out what the rest of them were doing:
But the coach really took her under her wing & helped her out:
After they practiced their skills, they divided into teams & actually got to play. I think this might have been the most confusing for her because the other kids (especially the older boys) really took over & she didn't understand what was going on, but eventually she chased them around & tried to fit in:
After the game, the coach asked them to run around & pick everything up:
This might have been her favorite part because she is such a good helper! But then their coach called them in for a team huddle & passed out stickers:
Even more excited! As you can see, there is only 1 other girl in the class & that is her friend Kenzie:
She started last September & was the only girl until Sadie joined. Her mom & I would like to put the girls in a real league with the Frisco Soccer Association which they qualify for next fall. My hope is that she will just learn the basic skills this semester while having fun with her friends after school so that she will know what she is doing when the league starts next fall. At least the league will be an all girl team with kids her age.
We'll see how it goes. I really hope we can let her try everything while she is young so she can determine what she likes & dislikes. I just hope she chooses an activity that keeps us indoors because I hate this cold weather!
