While we were visiting my parents past weekend, we thought it would be fun to make a day trip to Galveston. I grew up going to Galveston since we only lived an hour from there and Bryan & I had been there a few times while we lived in Houston also. However, we hadn't been since the last hurricane really hit the island a few years ago. I thought we would be safe going the first weekend in May since it's not really hot yet, but it was still really crowded. The island looked great - they have really rebuilt! Unfortunately, one of the old flagship hotels that was built over the water got destroyed, but they turned it in to:
I'm not sure why they didn't build something like this years ago! It had food, games, entertainment, etc. right over the water. Sadie was in heaven! We all got wristbands & she took turns riding a few rides with Bryan & Doc:
We had an awesome lunch at Fish Tails where we sampled a lot of shrimp. Sophie got to have her usual:
One of these days she will get to have the good stuff!
We didn't ride too many rides because they are expensive & Sadie wasn't tall enough, but we had fun just walking around, sight seeing, eating, etc.
Her favorite part of the pier might have been the water log ride. She could watch it all afternoon because she got so excited seeing the water splash everywhere! I tell you, the girl loves water & we hear about it all the time :)
When we left the pier, we wanted to ride the ferry over to Boliver Island, but the wait time was over an hour & that didn't sound like fun sitting in the car waiting with two tired children :( Instead, we drove around some more. The public beaches on the main strip were pretty clean & very crowded (plus it costs to park down there) so we drove out a little to where the nicer beach front houses are & the parking is free. Unfortunately, the beaches were not as clean down there:
I am not exaggerating when I say that it was the most seaweed I have ever seen in my entire life! Once we got past that, Sadie loved the water! The weather was perfect, except it was pretty windy & the water was still a little cool. But that didn't stop Sadie from getting in!
I can't help but laugh at this last picture because Sadie's hair is hilarious! I mean, she always has crazy hair, but check out that pouf!
Poor Sophie didn't enjoy the beach this time around:
She was a trooper until about 2:00. This was the first time we tried an all day adventure with her without a nap & it was not successful :( I was hoping she would be so tired she would sleep in her car seat or while we were out, but not so much. It was the most exhausted I have ever seen her, poor thing! I definitely learned my lesson. I have always taken my kids everywhere & we travel quite a bit, but this just reminded me that no matter where we go, my kids are resilient, but they still need a nap :)
