is no longer! We have swaddled Sadie since the day she was born & she just loved it! I swear that is one of the reasons she is such a good sleeper. We didn't just swaddle her with receiving blankets, we actually had blankets that were made for swaddling with Velcro to wrap her up tight. That's why we always called her our little burrito :) We would swaddle her for naps during the day & for bedtime. I asked her Pediatrician if this was ok & she said babies either love it or hate it but they will probably out grow it by the time they are 6 months. Let's just say I was getting a little nervous since she turned 5 months old last week - I didn't think she would ever outgrow this stage! Actually, she started breaking her swaddle during the middle of the night about a month ago. Her legs would always stay wrapped up, but she would get her arms & hands free. Eventually she would sleep during the night with her top half unswaddled, but she could never fall asleep with out being restrained. If she wasn't wrapped up, her arms would fly around & it looked like a disco night club inside her crib! I finally decided that we were going to start breaking this habit little by little - starting with her naps. First, I switched her from the tight swaddle blanket to the swaddle Halo Sack. This kept her upper body tight, but her lower body had more wiggle room. Two weeks ago I started putting her in a Halo Sack that zips up her entire body, but has a place for her arms to stretch out. My goal was to get her sleeping comfortably during the day with no interruptions. Once she could do this, then we would try for an unswaddled sleep at night. I am pleased to say that our patience paid off & she has slept the past 2 nights unswaddled with no interruptions - 12 hours straight! I figured we would have at least a few hard nights while she transitioned, but she handled it like a champ! Here is a sample of what I got to wake up to yesterday morning:
Obviously I am one proud Mommy! And in case you are wondering, no, I did not coordinate her pajamas with her crib bedding - that was pure coincidence :)
