A few weeks ago Bryan had a few unexpected surprises turn up & he wanted me to share them with you. First off, it was a Monday morning & Bryan & I got big box delivered to our house from our good friend Joel. When we opened it we were stunned:
Apparently, Joel went to a Longhorn event in Odessa & got to meet Mack Brown. For those who don't know, Mack Brown is the head football coach for the UT Longhorn Football Team. In case you haven't figured it out, Bryan's blood bleeds orange so he was stoked! Joel didn't have anything for Mack to sign, except for the $100 bill he just happened to have in his wallet! Not only did Joel get his autograph for us, but he also had it framed.
Later that afternoon, we received another surprise package in the mail, this time it was directly sent from the UT Athletic Office, Department of Longhorn Football. Curious, we opened it to find a 8 x 10 picture again signed by Mack Brown & a personal letter he sent us! He mentioned in the letter that he had heard about our story & he needed Bryan to get well soon so he could come back to Austin & cheer on the UT football team! He even congratulated us on the little girl we are expecting! After looking at the picture, we realized that he is holding up the trophy for the Big XII Championship game from 2009 that we won at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. We just happened to be at that game & of course I had our tickets, so I took everything & had it framed to match the gift we just got from Joel.
We had no idea how we got this, but we later found out that another one of Bryan's good friends, David, who lives in Houston, pulled some strings & got our story out there. He is real involved in the Houston Chapter of Texas Exes.
To top things off, that same night Bryan & his friend Josh went to a UT event in Dallas & got to personally meet Mack Brown:
A while back, Bryan's Uncle Paul gave him a Wheaties cereal box that had a picture of Mack Brown on the cover when we won the 2005 National Championship. It has been sitting in his office so he was quite excited to have Mack sign that as well:
As you can tell his office is set! We have been slowly collecting UT memorabilia throughout the years & Bryan couldn't be happier!
This past Saturday we finally got our expected package in the mail - the 2011 season tickets & parking passes to the UT football games. I can't believe football season is just around the corner - the first game is Labor Day weekend. I'm not sure how many games we will make it to this year (it will depend on how Bryan is feeling) but at least he will have something to keep him occupied! And we love football season because we get to spend extra time with our close friends: Joel, Jenny, Josh, Adriana & David. This is our core group, but we always look forward to having more people stop by the tailgate :)
