Not only did we kick off fall break with the state fair, but we ended with it also! Every year we look at our calendar early & try to find a night where all 4 of us can go & we usually try to go the last week it is open, so it is cooler. And I prefer Thursday nights because it is less crowded & thrifty Thursday, with discounted prices for food. Unfortunately, Bryan had a trip planned so this year we had to go on Tuesday, which was actual fall break, so it was crowded. And hot, like 10 degrees above normal hot. Ugh. But that didn't stop us from having a good time! Just like Saturday, our first stop was for Bryan at Fletcher's for a corn dog:
In fact, food tends to be our favorite part of the fair! Sadie & I still have to be careful since we are gluten free, but we always get an elote:
and this year we discovered the deviled egg booth! We were able to have the hot honey & bacon deviled eggs & the Texas BBQ deviled egg. Bryan got the Wagyu deviled egg slider, which he claimed was his favorite of the night:
The girls found a pink lemonade slushy with pop rocks in it which they loved! And yes, it literally snapped & popped for a while they were drinking it:
And I read a review about a gf grilled cheese which they make with gf bread in a separate, sanitized area. I couldn't pass that up:
We always walk around to see the animals & my favorite part is the birthing barn, but I think this year Sadie had fun looking at the cars since she is about to turn 15 & get her permit:
Of course we can't visit the fair without stopping by to see Big Tex:
Eventually we made our way to the midway, which is the girl's favorite part!
We usually let them pick 1 or 2 rides & play at least 1 game, however, discount Tuesdays are for the rides. They were definitely cheaper, but WAY more crowded. Literally the longest lines I have ever seen at the fair & to be honest, it wasn't worth waiting. The girls were a little disappointed, so we let them play a few games instead:
Of course we couldn't leave without dessert:
It was way crowded & way too hot, but still worth the trip. We have literally taken the girls every single year since they were born so it only feels natural to go every fall. Until next year!
