It was a short season, but after 3 regular season meets, FISD had their district cross country meet on Tuesday. It was supposed to be on Monday but it rained all day, so they pushed it to Tuesday which meant a muddy course! But it was perfect weather outside & they ran at Warren Sports Complex which I hadn't noticed looked so pretty for fall. There were 18 middle schools participating so there was a TON of kids there & we saw a lot of friends from other schools. Not surprisingly, most of them we know from soccer:
She did awesome considering she doesn't love running! She is disciplined & likes to train to stay conditioned for soccer, but I wouldn't call her a natural runner. And it doesn't help that she is half the size of everyone else, so they have these long strides & she is doing double time trying to keep up! She finished 5th for her school & 43rd overall out of 155 7th grade girls. I mean, that puts her in almost the top 1/4 of their group. I think that is amazing!
We had no idea how their school did until the next morning when we got an update from their coaches - the 7th grade boys & girls got 3rd place - out of 18 schools, even more amazing!
Lots of celebrating when she crossed that finish line:
They always run 8th grade girls first, then 7th grade girls, 8th grade boys & then 7th grade boys, so we stayed until the very end so she could cheer on the boys in her grade:
It was a fun season & definitely a first for our family but we have quickly moved on & are really into basketball season now!
