I have known Bryan for almost 14 years & he has traveled quite a bit for work, but never internationally. And we have traveled a lot together, including internationally, but it has mostly been to Mexico or all over the Caribbean. We are addicted to warm weather & sandy beaches. But we have never traveled to Europe. Until Now! About 2 weeks ago Bryan found out that he had to travel overseas for business. He flew out last Sunday from Dallas to London. On Tuesday he flew from London to Romania. And on Thursday he flew from Romania to Sweden & then back to London. Whew! For someone who has never traveled internationally for business before, he really started with a full itinerary!
When he first told me, I was so excited! And then I asked if I could come :) His hotel & flight were paid for & we have a ton of miles so I could fly for free. Why wouldn't I?! Obviously I didn't want to be gone for 8 days like he was, but I figured I could swing a quick trip to London. It made sense to meet him at the end of his trip before he flew home so we could do some sightseeing together. So, I flew out on the red eye last Wednesday night. I left at 10:30 pm & arrived in London at 1:30 pm the next day. Bryan wasn't scheduled to fly in until late that evening so I grabbed a taxi & headed to check in at our hotel. I was so excited & I had to get out & see the city before he got there, but I knew I couldn't do too much without him, so I headed towards:
I have always heard about Harrods & was elated to be able to finally go! For those who have not heard of it, it is a famous department store that is HUGE! Probably the biggest department store I have every been to. I can't remember if it was 5 or 6 stories but each floor was phenomenal. When I walked in, the entire first floor was for women - handbags, jewelry, make up, etc. Then I went to the next floor & discovered the Christmas Shop:
I was in Christmas heaven! I am starting to get excited for Christmas since we are already half way through October. All of the decorations & store displays were amazing:
And of course I loved the Christmas music that was playing. They also had a huge book selection on this floor & I bought the girls a children's book about London. We have bought them books from everywhere we have traveled. It is a fun tradition!
Of course they had a men's floor (which I skipped!) & headed straight to the children's floor. Could you believe they had their own Disney store & Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique?!
Just like Disney World & Disney Land! I was blown away. And I couldn't help but browse the children's store because I had no idea so many high end designer's made children clothes!
The top floor was called shoe heaven & you can only imagine what that was like! I completely lost track of time & was there at least 2 hours because when I walked in it was light outside & somehow I missed the sunset:
Across the street I saw the cutest café with the best window display of desserts so I had to stop for dinner:
My first meal in London was delicious, even if I did enjoy it by myself. On my walk back to the hotel, Bryan called & they had landed early so I actually met up with him & his colleague for a late dinner. I honestly thought I would be tired from traveling but instead we stayed up until 2:00 our first night together. It was a great way to start our quick weekend get away! We may have not gotten a lot of sleep while we were over there, but we sure had a great time :)
