La Jolla & Coronado Island

Saturday morning, we headed out to explore Coronado Island:

We walked around Hotel Del Coronado & found this awesome sand castle on the beach. Again, Bryan & I have already been here but it was fun to take the girls. In fact, I think I have a picture of Bryan & I standing in this same spot so it's neat to see how our family has changed since then:

They had this grassy area in between the pool & the beach where we played for a while. It was actually turf so Max was loving crawling around on it while the rest of the kids ran around & played. Sadie & Zoe were showing off their gymnastics skills:

And we finally wrangled all of the kids for a group picture with the grandparents:

Before we left the island we had lunch at an old historic restaurant on the bay. We couldn't go without having seafood! From there we took the ferry from Coronado Island back into San Diego:

I think this was the first time our girls had ever ridden a ferry. It wasn't a very long ride, but it was a great way to see the city. And I loved seeing all of the sailboats out on the water.

Later that afternoon, we drove to Torrey Pines & let the guys check out the golf course. We also drove around La Jolla & were hoping to get out & walk around the shore to see the sea lions but it was so crowded we could never find a parking spot. The next morning we tried again but it was just as crowded. I guess we should have known since it was a weekend in the middle of summer, right before a holiday. But we did drive into La Jolla state park which had amazing views of the ocean & the valleys. We even got out & hiked one of the trails:

After that, we loaded up & headed to Highway 1 to drive the scenic route to Orange County. Who knew traffic would be horrible & it would literally take us hours to get there. Again, weekend in the middle of summer. Now we know! It was a quick weekend in San Diego but it's always fun exploring new places.
