Bryan's mom bought us this super cute advent calendar that we have been hanging for the past couple of years, but this is the first year we have actually got to have fun with it.
When we got home last weekend from Thanksgiving, we started a new tradition with Sadie - our daily countdown to Christmas! I usually put a candy cane in the calendar & move it every day, but this year I decided to add an activity or gift each day.
On December 1, Sadie got to open her first surprise - her own Christmas tree for her bedroom! For those who know me well, I am a super shopper & I love to shop the sales & I always have coupons :) Last year when I went to Target the day after Christmas, I stocked up on all of these super cute Christmas decorations for a girl's tree. I bought a tree topper, ornaments & garland all for 75% off & they came in the cutest colors! So, this year, all we had to do was buy her a tree. When Bryan & I went Christmas shopping over Thanksgiving, we found her the cutest 4 foot lime green tree that looks perfect in her bedroom!
Sadie was so excited to put her tree together & even more excited when the lights came on . She even helped me "fluff" it!
After we took it upstairs, she got a little bored decorating it, so she ran around & played while Bryan & I decorated it instead. I think she was proud of the finished product though:
Her favorite part is turning the lights on. Bryan bought extension cords for all of the trees that have push buttons you can turn on with your feet. I will admit, when we first put up all of our trees around the house, she was tempted to touch & play with everything, but since we taught her to turn on all the lights, she hardly ever messes with anything anymore. That is her "chore" - she gets to go around & turn on all the lights when she wakes up from her nap :)
The other thing she loves is the tree in her sister's bedroom:
I realized that I had bought so many ornaments that it was enough for both of the girls to have trees. Who knew that I would be pregnant with another girl while I was shopping the Christmas sales last December 26?! Bryan thought we should go ahead & buy a matching tree so we would already have it for next year. And of course he wanted to take it out of the box to make sure the lights worked & the next thing you know it was decorated & sitting in the nursery. Sadie enjoys lighting up her little sister's room even though no one lives there yet :)
The next night Sadie got her Christmas pajamas so she has already been wearing them to bed this week. One night, Bryan was gone to a FISD board meeting, so she & I drove around the neighborhood & looked at Christmas lights. She has also gotten a couple of Christmas books that sing - which she loves, by the way! And today we gave her some window gel clings in the shape of snowflakes that she has had fun decorating the back door with.
There will be several days where we will do an activity instead of presents, but overall, the presents haven't been anything big. In fact, most of them I bought the day after Christmas last year when I got them 75% off. Gotta love Target - that's my go to sale for after Christmas. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will somehow be able to sneak up there early in the morning while I have a newborn sleeping at home. We'll see how that goes.....
