Last Thursday Griffin played their last district game against our rival, Cobb. Both of our schools feed into the same high school & our schools are literally 2 miles away from each other, so not only are we rivals but we are also friends, if that makes sense. We know kids at both schools so even though they are rivals now, in 2 years all of these kids will be playing together & competing for the same team! Our girls had been undefeated this entire season & won the basketball tournament back in December, so this was a big game. And we lost. Ugh! Not to make excuses, but one of our best players woke up with fever the day of the game & was diagnosed with the flu so she didn't get to play & we really needed her! We ended up losing by a few points which was a very disappointing way to end the season.
Thankfully our girls still qualified for the district tournament so Saturday morning they showed up ready to go, all 10 of them:
Our first game was at 8:00 that morning & they looked a little tired, but they pulled out the win:
We were a little disappointed with our second game because we had to play Cobb again. We wanted to play them again, but we were hoping it would in the championship game. Thankfully our girls were ready for redemption & they did it this time! We beat them & then went on to win the next game, which was the championship securing them the title of FISD middle school district champs:
It was such a fun day! 3 games of great basketball back-to-back & these girls did amazing. We couldn't have been prouder & we had fun celebrating with all of our friends & family afterwards:
Surprisingly, she really enjoyed basketball but it's time for something new. They have a week off & then it's track season! She is looking forward to trying something new again & then finally, it will be school soccer - let's go Lady Gators!
