Bora Bora by Night

The sun set pretty early in Bora Bora so we tried to stay out until 5:00 or 5:30 most nights but the beach was literally dead by then so we would head back to our bungalow & read, take a bath & get ready while we watched the sunset from our room:

Most nights, we watched a wedding, romantic dinner or even one night a proposal right before sunset also! Around 4:30 they would set it up & literally every single night we saw it. They had this little island with a palm tree on it & most of the time they would bring the bride & groom to the island via a canoe decorated in flowers:

Maybe it's the romantic in me or because we were on a romantic vacation (remember, half the couples there were on their honeymoon!) but it never got old. In fact, everyone would come out to their balconies or walk in the water & cheer for them. It was so sweet!

We pretty much went to dinner around 7:00 every night & just stayed at the resort. Like I said, it really wasn't worth leaving & no one ever did so we enjoyed the restaurants a couple of times. Thankfully they would switch the menus up so one night the Mediterranean night had Italian night, etc.

One evening we went to the Polynesian Buffet & while we were there, they had Polynesian entertainment - music & dancing. It was a fun evening!

The buffet was pretty good & I had lots of options to choose from. I'm not going to write too much about my diet here, but I will say from experience, the higher end resorts do very well at accommodating all dietary restrictions. Breakfast was my favorite because I could literally special order anything I wanted, especially pastries (crepes, pancakes, french toast, etc.) and they would use almond milk to make it df along with the gf. And the buffet had everything labeled. My fun surprise of the night at the Polynesian buffet was the fried taro - it felt like I got to have a hush puppy or something I don't usually get to have anymore!

Afterwards, they asked us to walk out of the restaurant down towards the beach & they had fire dancers, which were the best part of our evening!

Most nights they lit up the palm tree on the island but this night was my favorite:

Our last evening there we decided to stay in & order room service. I don't know how we lucked out, but someone put on an amazing firework show so we got to sit there & watch it from our deck:

The poor lady who brought us our dinner was setting it up & dropped the tray. It kind of delayed our evening, but we weren't going anywhere so we patiently waited while they brought us new food & in return, they brought us extra. We had so much food it was ridiculous!

Our final day there, we didn't have to leave the resort until 6:00 that evening so we had a normal day, packed up & dropped off our suitcases and then went to the spa later that afternoon to clean up for our flight home. Before we left the resort, we stopped by the chapel & prayed for our next 20 years together. I was holding up really well this whole trip until this moment & then the tears came.....

I tried to snap a few pictures before we left because the sun had mostly set:

and would you believe that on our boat ride to the airport, it started raining. Of course - just like it did when we first got there! This picture below is the airport as we are pulling into it. Thank goodness is slowed down before we got there so we didn't get wet. That would have been a long night trying to get back home!

We took the 45 minute flight back to Tahiti, waiting there for an hour or so & then had the 8 hour flight back to LA, which thankfully was over night. We had a 4 hour layover in LA but Bryan got us on the standby list & not only did they put us on an earlier flight, but they also bumped us to first class:

What a perfect way to end our special trip! We truly lucked out & had smooth trips both ways transportation wise, we had pretty perfect weather (minus one day) in a pretty perfect place. I am so grateful that we had the opportunity to sneak away just the two of us & celebrate the past 20 years we have spent together & I am really so excited to see where the next 20 lead us!
