King Tut & Lake Highlands Qualifying Tournaments

Remember when I mentioned Sadie had 2 a days, right after July 4th?

Let's just say it has been all soccer since then. After they finished their week of 2 a days, they went back to normal training twice a week but now they practice 1 1/2 hours each time instead of 1 hour each. They finally got their new uniforms just in time for their first tournament last weekend, King Tut:

Doesn't she look sharp?! King Tut is a friendly, showcase tournament where there is no winner or loser bracket, just a guaranteed 4 games. It is basically great practice for all of the new club teams that were just put together July 1. Sadie was excited to play & she had a big cheering section at her first game:

They showed up for their first game & played awesome. I have to throw a huge shout out to Pam for taking pictures with her camera because I love real action shots:

The next morning we were up early & she was ready to go again. Thanks to my braiding skills, I am finally good enough to braid her hair tight enough where it will last all day while playing:

They had a couple of tough losses on Sunday after their win on Saturday but honestly, as a new team, they looked really good. Their coach moved their positions around a lot & you could tell she was trying different strategies & getting them ready for their next tournament:

That week, they had a surprise at soccer practice:

In was almost 100 degrees outside but out of no where we got a sprinkle & then a rainbow appeared. All of their training & practices built up to their biggest event, the Girls Classic Qualifying Tournament, which was this weekend. The Girls Classic league is the top soccer league for girls her age in the North Texas area but you have to qualify to play in it. The league runs in the fall & the spring, but they have a 2 week tournament that runs the end of July/beginning of August to set the league for fall play. We had 3 games weekend & somehow these girls dominated all 3 games. I mean they were shut outs! We won 3-0, 1-0 & 2-0. These girls played their hearts out & we could not have been more proud of them:

There were 7 brackets with 4-5 teams in each bracket & if you won your bracket, those 7 teams automatically qualify. To make it more confusing, the league is divided into 2 divisions, D1 & D2, so everyone who qualified this weekend, automatically made D1 & do not have to play anymore. The rest of the teams have to continue play for another week & the next round of winners will make the next cut. I cannot tell you how excited we were that we qualified in round 1! Not only are we super proud of them, but also they get a whole week off - no practices, no games, a much deserved break for this group of girls who have worked their tails off this week:

This was the biggest win these girls have ever had & they celebrated by throwing their water on Coach T. We have the video to go with it! Go Renegades - I have a feeling it's going to be a fun, fall season playing D1 with these girls!
