After last summer, Sadie declared her favorite week of summer was her week at camp & of course we registered her literally last summer so we were kind of nervous about camp actually happening this summer. Thank goodness our governor finally gave the all clear! We were a little nervous to send her based on today's reality, but let's be honest, she has been home for months & we don't have any plans this summer so we really wanted her to have 1 week of normalcy. At least this year we knew what we were doing when it was time to get her ready:
We were all set to drop her off on Sunday afternoon & we even had the car decorated:
The weather had other plans because it was raining so we had to take pictures in the garage before we left in case the rain washed our decorations off:
On our way, we made a pit stop just like last year:
We literally can't drive by a Bucee's without stopping!
Finally, we arrived & the rain had moved out:
We got to ride the wagon to her cabin:
This year she was in Little House:
They had lots of changes in effect this year. No one was allowed in her cabin except campers, so we literally had to drop her off outside but that didn't stop off us from taking lots of pictures! Randomly a friend on her soccer team was at camp the same week:
and several friends from her school:
After that, we took off! But one of the things I love about Sky Ranch is the fact that they post pictures all week so we could always see what she was doing & what friends she was with. I can't tell you how exciting it is to see her with a smile on her face at all times! Here was her cabin on the first night:
They had a bigger cabin this year & I believe there were 18 girls but at least they had 4 counselors. Unfortunately, the rain continued throughout the week but it came & went so they still had fun despite it. They still had plenty of opportunities to swim in the pools, the slides & the lake:
They also spent some time at the tree house, ropes course & zip line:
And of course they had lots of parties each night with different themes:
The only thing I was nervous about was her eating. This was the first time she had been away from me since being diagnosed with celiac however I had talked to the cafeteria manager before she went & I knew she would be safe for meals. They had a gluten free plate made for her at every meal but I was nervous about her eating snacks on her own. Thank goodness the Lord answered a prayer by putting her in a cabin with a counselor who also has celiac! I think she helped her most of the time but unfortunately she did get sick a few times. She confessed that she had to go to the nurse's station a few times, once after eating Frosted Flakes. Seriously? Frosted Flakes?! She knows she cannot have that but I think she wanted to push her boundaries & feel normal. But I'm pretty sure she learned her lesson because she did not like being sick at camp. Other than that, she had the best time at camp! She made some really good friends this year, in fact, she said she made deeper friendships this year. She full on cried the first night at home because she couldn't go to sleep without her friends:
Camp was cut a day short this year, so instead of picking her up on Saturday, we picked her up on Friday afternoon. I think they needed the extra day to sanitize & get ready for the next round of campers. And pick up was different also. There was no closing ceremony, in fact, picking her up was kind of like car lane at school. We literally never had to get out of the car. We did have a few minutes with one of her counselors when they presented her award:
Sophie got to go to camp the same week also, but she stayed in Frisco & went to the day camp so she was not with us when we picked Sadie up, but they were SO excited when we picked Sophie up! She didn't know Sadie would be with us so it was a double surprise:
Thank you Sky Ranch for making such an incredible mark on the hearts of our daughters!
