Two years ago we had an idea - Frozen II was supposed to be released last Thanksgiving & I knew that would be the perfect birthday party for the girls. Until it was pushed back another year, so we had to hang on to that idea until this year:
This was the perfect theme for our girls since the movies is about sisters. Actually, 6 years ago, Frozen was released over Thanksgiving & I took Sadie to see it while I was super pregnant. It was one of the last dates we had just the 2 of us before Sophie was born. And here we are 6 years later celebrating the second one together:
For the past 6 years, I have had one big combo birthday party for both of them & it has worked great. December is always a busy month & I usually invite a lot of the same families who have siblings the same age & I was excited to do that again this year since Sophie started kinder & has met some new friends. However, I keep saying this is our last big year. And boy did we go out with a bang! We ended up having 80 people there. I know that it is a lot, but actually it worked perfectly because we rented the theater so we had it to ourselves. That way the kids could sing, dance & do whatever they wanted without bothering anyone else! I thought it would have been fun to hire a real Elsa & Anna to surprise them at the theater, but it was out of my budget, so I bought a life size copy instead:
I tried to take a few pictures as our friends arrived. They got there 30 minutes early so we had time to visit & play before the movie started. All of the kids got to pick their own seat & since this is a dine in theater, we let each of the kids pick a kids meal. Get ready for picture overload because I tried to snap shots of everyone to send to their parents:
Most of the parents dropped their children off, but we had a few moms who wanted to stay. We also had my mom, Bryan's parents & both of his grandmothers come as well:
Before the movie started, we tried to take a group picture but this is as good as we got!
There was a lot of people to squeeze in there!
Then we sang Happy Birthday to the girls & let them blow out the candles on their cupcakes:
Bryan & I had fun watching the movie but we were also busy checking on the kids & helping out. To be honest, I couldn't really tell you the story line of the movie so I'll probably have to watch it again!
We put my mom & my mother in law to work also. They stood in the lobby to help welcome everyone. Sherry held a poster with the girls' name while my mom had a sheet to check everyone in while they passed out tickets:
They also did an awesome job during the movie keeping on eye on everyone, taking kids to the restroom & not letting anyone escape!
I knew this would be a big party & the girls already get plenty at Christmas, so I actually put no gifts on the invitation, but apparently not everyone got the memo:
When the movie was over, it got a little chaotic, but we let the kids run around inside the theater until their parents got there. Finally we took a few more pictures with family before it was time to head home:
We headed home around 9:30 & the girls were not tired at all & begging to open presents so we ended up letting them stay up pretty late digging into everything:
Spoiled rotten! That's all I have to say about these two :) Honestly, it was an awesome night. The party went better than I could have imagined. Once the lights dimmed, the kids were pretty calm. I wish I could have recorded their reactions during the movie. It was so cute when they would all laugh at the same time! The theater attendants were awesome. They had the food out quickly, helped with the cupcakes & were genuinely helpful all night. It was the perfect way to celebrate both of them with all of their friends & I am glad we could celebrate both of them together. Cheers to sisters!
